1966 Petty Blue Belvidere II

Hey guys, I stumbled across this thread while researching Petty Blue Belvederes a while back and finally decided to join the conversation. I have one of the few known to exist 1966 Petty Blue Belvedere II's with the 999 Paint code. My grandpa bought it new in 66 and and we have restored it over the past few years.

Originally bought by your grandpa is excellent provenance if the car has been in the family the entire time. Maybe there is purchase/dealership paperwork and old pictures to further add to the provenance?

Absolutely, that is one of the things I've read when it comes to the 999 code. I wonder if there's any way to prove that it was originally petty blue? I have a feeling getting in touch with someone at Chrysler and them actually being able to dig that deep would be a long shot.

I can't help with how many there were orginally #'s

When you have a 999 paint code car you here more negative stories than positive. Ask me how I know. To fake one you would have to go through a lot of trouble. And there wasn’t a lot of paint put on these cars to begin with as you can see in my picture.

If you read the fender tag upside down, it says 666.

You can tell most fakes when you see them. Headlight doors should be matte black and the Plymouth decal is not on th quarter panel and the paint in the door jamb looks poorly applied. And no decal on the wing Lol

Sorry to drudge up an old thread but after owning my car since 1990 and finally getting through adulting and parenting I’ve decided to restore my high school car. In searching for a paint code I found this thread. If I want to paint my car back to its original color, is 999 what i’m asking the paint supply place to mix or am I going to have to have them do a camera shot? First picture is how I enjoyed the car back in the day and the others were during a recent disassembly.

Some places have an excellent scanner/paint match system.
If you can bring it over they can scan that part behind the quarter panel extension.
They matched the mettalic green hood on my Charger very well a couple years ago (not an easy match to accomplish).

When I worked at the body shop, we had a camera that did a pretty good job of it. Unfortunately the fender tags are missing.

You'll need a reasonably flat area about 6" square in order for the photo/scanner to work.

@Captain Chaos - what's the original engine in that car?

I'm guessing small block.

I didn't notice when posted but that pic earlier in the thread that says one was supposedly a 83 4 speed car has the same "V8" emblems as your car.

Big block cars would have larger red "Commando V8" emblems.

The whole underside of the trunk lid and hood are still original color. The hood ornament says 318. It was a 440 car when we bought it.

Why not call Petty enterprises in North Carolina. They are very cool there and would be able to help you out I’m sure.
