Finally my car is up and running, unfortunatly in changing to a newer engine (supposed to be a dodge truck 72, 318, but that oil pan doesn't fit so not convinced I was sold what I thought I was buying. Haven't been able to find a matching engine number anywhere to determine engine type) My dad and I decided to "upgrade" to the electronic ignition that came with the newer motor. It worked great at first (9 months)but I have an intermittent charging issue that has been more of an issue the last couple of months then a non issue. Contimplating going back to points and condensers since I still have all the original stuff.

I will work on cosmetics once I get the engine sound. Here are three views of my car. I found the original wheel covers and some wheels that fit but I need to get the hub hole machined about 1/8" to fit on my car.

Looks like it has a solid body to start with...

Very nice original looking car! Original stuff is always nice but i would consider price of the modification you mention on those wheels and consider something like the road wheels in these pics which look nice. there are lots of looks and styles that can look really cool. another option is painted black steels with chrome mopar full lug nuts like on my conv pics, or dog dishes (i have run those also) do you have the small (dog dish) or full wheel covers? whatever makes you happy is what you should do. but plain steel 14 x 5.5 or 14 x 6 (better tire options) are pretty plentiful and are all original style for your car so i would consider the larger size if the ones you have require a mod anyway.

here are the road (often called magnum 500's) on this green 67 GTX to give you an idea of what they would look like on your car when completed.

If it runs with the points dist. I would drop that back in. That's the cheapest way of getting back on the road.

Another option:
I swapped in a Skip White dist. into my `66 Poly 318...works great and it was cheap($54). To make it work, the balast resistor needs to be either bypassed (jumpered) or passed through. I just removed the 'guts' in mine and soldered in a solid piece of 12 gauge wire. It comes with a dist. cap that has 'external vice internal recepticlel connections and will need different plug wires than your originals...like what is used on the mid-`90s magnum engines.

Intermittent electrical problems can be a challenge to pin down. Best thing to do is grab a multimeter when you know it's not charging (while it's running) and starting at the alternator, start reading out connections to see where the power stops. could be a loose diode in the alternator itself, a bad regulator, or just a dirty connection.

A dremel tool with a stone bit or a hand file and some time, will get those other wheels on for free.

Keep us posted.

shawneen, Looks like a cool ride you got there, Good luck with your plans and im sure there is someone here that could help repair your charging system..

Thats a great shade of green on that!

Looks good.
Is yours a 440?
I would love to even have a 340-6
I swear that was the fastest car I was ever in.

Nice solid looking Plymouth. I'd stick with the electronic ignition if you can..Lot less maintenance over the long haul. I've had issues the the orange box Mopar electronic ignition modules in the past...I've had to either change out the box to the brass/chrome one or switch out the voltage regulator type. I agree with Tallhair on the wheels. Magnum 500's would really dress your car up and change it's attitude. But, if you're going for more of the "how she came", nothing wrong with that either.

Below's a wheel simulator they have over at Jegs. They don't have your '66 Belv in the system, but do have a 66-67 Coronet (similar Body). Play around with the color, wheel size, brand of rims n' such:

If the hub holes are smaller but the bolt pattern is the same, it sounds like you ended up with a set of Ford wheels....

The original wheel were stolen form my uncle (org owner). He just bought some cheaper dog dish style but they have the wrong offfset so they rub and wear out the tires pretty quickly. They are trailor wheels, I have had a hard time finding the right size wheels 14x5.0 with an off set of +0.5. My spare (original with org vinyl tire) fit on my dad's trailor. So for my birthday my family bought me these wheels. They are perfect with the exception of the hub hole being just slightly too small. They are black wheels and look nice with my wheel covers. I have the full size wheel covers. Like this wheel covers.jpg

I have contimplated going all black as well. I keep going back and forth on that one.

For the oil pan I ordered a 72 charger oil pan (it may have been a different b body) but it wouldnt bolt up at the rear main seal. I had to have the car one cut and fabricated the rear panel from the truck pan on to get a seal and it has a silicone "gasket" because we couldnt figure out what it was supposed to be ( the truck one had a rear sump we couldnt get around but the car oil pan had the mid sump). I even took it to a trans shop that works with a lot of older cars and they couldnt figure it out. When it gets light I will go jot down my engine casing # maybe someone can give me a clue as to what engine I have in her. I have not been successful in finding the engine # match anything online.

I have taken a multimeter to it a couple of times, everythinlooks good under the hood except where the wires go into the dash. So from the alternator its good, the alternator is good. I was thinking about changing out the voltage regulator again. But someone suggested that the gauge may have gone out and is drawing intermittently. I already pulled the dash and filed and re gouped every connection. Its a little exasperating. But I will try the suggestions. What ever it takes to get her going again.

Thanks

Shawneen

The electronics in these cars can get offensive sometimes, Hopefully its something simple and can get it taken care of..
All black rims with the chrome lug nuts from Auto zone would look mean and intimidating on this, I do like your wheel covers there as well..

Just my opinion - but I think black steel wheels, or even color matched to the body would look absolutely perfect on your car. As tallhair said above, add the chrome lugs and the combo would make the car stand out anywhere you went. I'd drive this car everywhere!

Here's a pic of mine with the black steels.
