1966 Plymouth Steering Column

I have searched everywhere. It seems as if my lower part of column where shaft comes out is missing something. Can anyone advise as what I need to order to fix it. The shaft just flops around in there.

Well, that kind of normal. The steering column is “loose” until bolted in. However, there are upper/lower bushings and seals. That column looks really rough. Likely some advertisers here have the parts you need.

The "two-piece" rubber seal at the bottom should be a single piece. That does stabilize the column shaft/housing assembly and stop engine compartment fumes and heat from entering the passenger side of the firewall.

Isn't there a bearing at the bottom of the tube? Looks like the whole outer part of the race and bearings are gone. Least that's how a '69 is.

My '64 column just has the seal with Teflon bushing in it. You have to remove the column and remove the coupler at the steering box in order to remove destroyed piece, and slide new seal on. The seal clips over the flared end of the column jacket. When putting your column back in, leave the floor plate bolts loose, so you can align the column after reconnecting the shaft coupler. Now, align the column so there is the least amount of stress on the seal/bushing, and tighten the bolts down.

I took my column to a local bearing shop. They fixed me up with a bearing that fit perfectly and a collar to hold it in place. Less than $30.

That's a great idea. Solid as a rock and turns smooth as glass!

I installed a sealed bearing in the bottom of my 65 D100 column. Way better than that bushing. Here is where I got the idea.
