I am looking at buying a 67 GTX. I am going to look at one in the morning. It is a 440 4spd car, manual brakes and steering. Guy selling it is the 3rd owner. He has had it 20yrs and bought it from a friend who had it 15yrs. Car had a repaint about 30 years ago. I am told it is numbers matching. Has the build sheet and fender tag. Has newer leaf springs and some of the interior has been replaced. Looks good in the pics but most do. He thinks it has all of its original sheet metal. We talked about price a bit already. His bottom line price is 22k. He was offered 20k recently and turned it down. He said if he can not get 22k he will keep it for now. Of course seeing it and looking it will tell me better what it is worth. It is a 4hr drive and he made it clear if I was not willing to pay 22k to not bother coming to look it. So whats everyone think about the price? Tough to tell with out seeing it in person but just looking for some opinions.

A 67 GTX in nice shape, w/out serious issues, could be worth 22K. Ask him to show you the matching numbers on a 67. The numbers aren't to be found, only date codes for engine/trans. They need to be made before the production date of the car. At least you know what the firm price is, and an 8 hour round trip is better then buying sight unseen. Ideally you can take a truck and trailer and get it in only one trip. Good luck with your prospect, BTW, your pics didn't load

I should have specified that he told me they where correct dates. Not actually numbers matching since as you stated there is no way to verify 100% that it is the original drivetrain. Let me try the pics again.

Well you know you might want a paint job. Find out if you may need to rebuild the engine. Add that up $$$ and decide if thats were you may want to go with the total $ amount in the car. Good luck.

I'd also ask what is that round emblem on the front fender..never seen one before on a 67 GTX and I've owned several...the 4 speeds are less available and increase the price. 22k is a good deal on a # matching 67 GTX in good shape. See if it has the original 354 dana also

He did say it had the original Dana 354. I also asked about those emblems. That are actually 68 marker lights that the original owner had installed on the car. Would prefer that they were not there but I would probably repaint it at some point and remove them.

Looks like someone added 68 marker lights to it, seems to have been done to a few of them back in the day.

Looks like it has factory tach, thats a plus..Still has the original inland shifter too..Most guys swap them out to hurst..If all the numbers match it,s worth 22 for sure..Still needs paint and the 68 runnin lights got to go..

Yea the '68 indicators are killing me. And notice, the "bullet" fender indicators are gone. And no stripes... Really good looking car though, and of course, it's a 4 speed with supposed original Inland shifter! But the heater/vent box, shouldn't it be blacked out. I don't mean to nit-pick, just seems wrong.

Gtx

Hey!You're laying out the money,so if it's what you want go for it! It's always great to get something for less!but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. It looks to be worth the $22000 he's asking.Take the cash and your trailer, make him and offer,He might change his mind when he sees the cash just don't low ball him. It'll p--- him off ! Good luck hope you get it I've always liked the 67 GTX.

fender mounted turn signals were an option..would be nice if a build sheet was included...and one person added He has seen alot sell for under 20k..not in this condition...pictures are misleading but the front bumper "looks" to need refreshing and if the rear is the same plus the tail panel..You're looking at a couple grand there

Well I just got back from looking at the car. He did have the build sheet it was in rough shape but mostly intact. The car ran well. The paint looks pretty good for a 30 year old paint job. The dating on the drivetrain is all before the cars build date. One odd thing about the engine dating. The car was assembled 12/28/66. The block was cast 10/24/66 at first look the engine was assembled 12/13/66. But when I looked closer the 1 was actually an I. I have never seen this before. I guess the person stamping it could have grabbed the I thinking it was a 1? It also had HP stamped on it an C440 which is correct. Trim inside an out was in nice shape. Had new exhaust, tires and clutch. Interior was in really nich shape. Probably had new seat covers and rug at some point. I could not find any rot on the car. Not many options if any. Dana with 354, HD suspension, premium bucket seats with console, no A/C or power anything. But thats ok with me I like some option but can live without them not a deal breaker. Original air cleaner long gone but has the original exhaust manifolds. Is an undercoated car. Going to go and finish decoding the build sheet. I wrote down all the info. I have few other cars to take a look at and I am not in a huge rush. But don't want to pass on a decent deal either. Overall probably a ok deal considering it should not need any panel replacement or rot repair and has the original drivetrain. But will eventually need paint.

HMMM. No power nothing. GTX's were suppose to be the gentlemans car. Mine has alot of bells and whistles ( POWER BRAKES,STEERING,BACK SPEAKERS ) because it was a GTX. MINE IS A 68. Maybe 67's did not do that.

I looked at one that had every option including all the glass being tinted.

I don't think the front side marker lights were an option from the factory. I have seen 2 cars in person, and others posted here and elsewhere, with them. Some are located in different locations on the panels. They may be dealer installed, but I don't think they were factory.

45 years...people do weird stuff! like the side marker lights..
but it is a nice ride......if it a super clean driver ..
22 is ok...4 hours, is nothing to put you in front of the seller.
Driven, ...... "cash in hand"? ...in person?...well cash is king

best of luck,
