1967 plymouth satellite

ok, just picked this project up last week. I found it on craigs list for $800.00, it had sat in this ladys backyard for 27 years and does it show! my family and I are going to build this together, that will be a different build then I have ever done. the plan is to build a GTX clone as I have a 440 in the garage and I really like the GTX look. it was an original 273 auto car code 881 bright blue w/ the black bucket seat int. the car still has the orig driveline in it, I had thought about doing a #'s matching restoration due to it being so complete... any thoughts? the body is quite straight with only minimal damage to the front fender and the bigggest problem is the rear shock mount is broken and lying on the rear floorboard( air shocks still attached). the int. is junk the moehair( yes moehair) headliner and seat covers had turned to dust reveiling the dried uph. the carpet held the suprise of solid floors and the trunk is very solid. I will post pic's as we do more work.

Yes, I own a 67 Satellite for the past 23 years and my feelings are this, there are enough GTX clones out there.
The stock Satellite of 1967 are getter more and more rare. With fuel over $3.00 a gallon, I would really stick with the 273. It really is a good and economical engine.

Having owned these cars since they were just old used cars, I say go for the clone. In my day a satellite was nothing more than a good donor car for a GTX resto... or a good drag car in the form of an GTX clone.

X2 with the 273 ,i have a 65 plymouth belvedere that looks like a max wedge car ,but still has the poly.Good gas mileage and very dependable.But hey just have fun any way you go

Build an 80's roller 318 or magnum 5.9, keep the original engine in the corner of the garage, put 273 4 Barrel emblems where the GTX emblems should be, get a second hood, and put on functional GTX scoops (paint the stripes if you like), and have some fun when people ask about the 273.

When I look under the hood of a b-body I like to see a big block. Who cares about gas millage with a car that used on weekends. Go for a GTX clone with a 440. Best looking b-body ever.
Plus if you meet a chevelle at a red light you don't have to pretend he's not there:headbang:

I have a factory 383-4 Coronet 440 with a sway bar.
That's mechanically and trim level wise, a 66 Super Bee (and no, I'm not putting on a tail stripe)

I did always think the 68/69 RR hood or the GTS bumps would look real good on the 66/67 hoods.

I did buy a 67 Coronet that someone had already put Bee emblems on, in the correct places.
I went ahead and put Scat Pack stickers in the rear windows.

thank you all for the input. we have kicked the idea around and think that we will stick with a satellite restoration while installing the 440. not to worry because we will restore the 273 and store it, that way if we ever want to return it to stock, we can.

ok next Q, I have a 74 440 out of a motor home, now before i hear about boat anchor this has a steel crank six pack rods and the factory double roller timing gear. A real score for 250.00 with 48k showing on the ODO.now while at work the other day a cust tells me of a complete 66 440 that he has been "dragging around" with him for the last 20 or so years. should I stick with the 74 or go for the 66? what about a little of each?? as always thanks for the input.

A 440 block is a 440 block...Just the heads are different on the 66 block..Then just little stuff like the power steering pump and bracket..If you change the heads and intake on the 74 engine you,ll have a good motor...Since your gonna build a gtx clone i,d pump up the motor and make it a screamer!!!!!

Copy that! Way too many knock-off's out there, and I actually like looking at the flat hood, 318, 273, 225, etc rides at shows these days as they're rare now.

making horspower is no problem. I used to work as a moper performance specialist for the 5th largest mopar performance dealer in the nation(back then at least) but that was long ago and i somtimes question my process, ya know? I was not sure about the piston to deck relation on the 74, is it lower in the hole or close to zero? so much I have forgotten. the 74 still has the hone marks evedent so a simple re-ring would do for the bottom end, a nice sized cam with the correct intake head combo should make some good power. any thoughts on the edelbrock pkg?

WHAT? No Roadrunners in 1967? Now I had a buddy who had an uncle who had a neighbor that owned a 1967 Pontiac (or Dodge, he wasn't sure) Roadrunner with a fuel injected 389 Chrysler hemi with 2 four barrel carbs. Honest! He told me it had a secret engine that was a V-11 and ran on water vapor and olive oil in order to save gasoline. It had a transmission that allowed you 14 1/2 speeds forward and three in reverse. Had 32 inch wheels in front and 12 inchers out back (for that really great rake look.) It had six exhaust pipes that ran out the passenger side front quarter panel and six on the other side too, (one was a fake because it was after all a V 11.) :toothy10:
