1968 440 block

Can someone give me some clarification on the 6th digit of the stamping.... some say the "P" is for Premium, one said if it's "S" it's for "Special", ie. High Test ?
My 383 block stamping reads PT383P24132196...would the Julian date be the "2143"...how is this calculated. if the 2143 is a Julian Date that would be the 214th day of 1963... I'm sure the casting date on the block is 1968. Help !
Tks,

Non hp engines were not stamped on the top rear of the block. They were however stamped by the starter on the big ear , they included where it was built, Julian date code, what number the engine was built for the day and what fuel it was to use.
With my limited experience, probably less than 30 1968 440's that I either laid eyes on or had the owner check (mostly from engines listed for sale) I have yet to find one that does not go along with what F4 R/T stated. Hp engines had the vin on the back edge up top, non-HP had nothing. To be clear, I am talking only about D stamped engines. And to be really clear, I have no expertise when it comes to these things. Just my small sampling.

built may 2....... prob out of a C body or maybe a warranty block?
From what I've seen, (I have
one), warranty blocks/
engines weren't stamped.
There's no numbers on the
block except for casting
numbers.
The oilfields around here
bought hundreds of 440's
for pump and well duties.
None were stamped, and
all were painted grey.
My engine builder used one
of these blocks for the
engine he put together for
me.

I have a 1968 440 block. Has "D 440" and "5 2" stamped on the pad infront of the intake, can't see any sign of "HP" stamping and it has this number stamped by the oil pan "PT4400P24700841"????? Can anyone tell me anything about this number? Thanks

The pt may stand for police/taxi. The other p may stand for points according to books the rest is vehicle I’d number to match to vin

PT stands for Trenton engine assembly plant. 440 is engine size. P is for premium fuel.2470 is 10,000 day calendar date for may 2nd 1968. 0841 stands for 841st engine built that day. The numbers have nothing to do with the car's VIN. The partial VIN will be stamped on the back of the block to the left of the oil sender in 1968, but not all 68 engines had a VIN stamping. In 69 and up it will be on a pad above the oil pan rail on the right side. The top pad stamping D is for 68 model year, and 5 2 is May 2nd assembly date.
