1968-69 am/fm radio problem with sound/no sound?

I had that issue with a 70 radio. Mine was a loose speaker wire. Is the display backlight on the whole time? (power to radio)

On occasion the audio output transistors fail or the small wire wound thermistor in that circuit. I'd definitely take @PurpleBeeper advice and try a speaker of "known quality" first.

My thumbwheel am/fm works great for about the first 30 minutes, then can't pick up anything on fm, but am works perfectly.

The RF local oscillator transistor and/or capacitors in that circuit are susceptible to failure.

Anybody out there in Mopar land ever have problem with 1968-69 AM/FM thumbwheel radio sound/no sound? Bob Horman
See if the 4x10 is rotted away. My 70 had that happen. Worked for years then bam, one day nothing and looked at speaker and it was all in pieces
