1968 charger rear frame rail replacement question

Yeai need to pull the rear passenger side rail down

try letting the suspension hang if you haven't already......jack it up an put jack stands under the spring hangers

i always attach the trunk pan to the wheel houses last, it allows for easy up and down adjustment; you're likely past that point

I tried it with the leaf springs uninstall. I think I'm going to have to just drop the rear frame rail push the trunk pan down and see how things fit. If everything fits well. I'm just going to weld it all together. I can't waste anymore time on this

**** like this is frustrating but it’s easier to fix it now than chase everything else that will come from welding panels in the wrong position just to say it’s done…Walk away from that area and then come back to it. There is always other areas to work on and that time away could give you less frustration. Just my 2 cents….

Mark does this **** weekly by eye. To the OP, get it off the tires and at least on stands to get it level and squared up before going any further.

I just came back after a year break lol. Lowering the rear passenger side frame is the only option I can think of now. The driver side rear frame rail is original so I know if I can match the passenger up to it. It should be fine

I understand been there and done that and waaaaay longer than a year. So the passenger side is an aftermarket? Who welded that one in?

I weld it. The passenger side rear frame rail was rotten when i bought the car so i replaced. Since the rear driver side has its original rail i could just match up the passenger side rail to it.

I have been messing this rear frame rail for a while and I can't figure why my rear passenger frame rail is higher than my driver side.

27 posts later you answered your own question.

you didn't mention you already replaced the rail

you didn't do a total mock up before welding

everything is fixable; but now you have to fight it, and probably backtrack a bit

if you free the trunk pan from the wheel house on that side; it will allow you to pull the rail down pretty easy

A lil update. So I basically did what

eldubb440 said. I took out the passenger side rear frame rail and drilled out the spot weld out of the inner wheel house. Once I did that I had all the play in floor pans. So I did what I was suppose to do from the getgo and mocked everything up before welding. Now I got those truck brace to fit and also pushed, pulled and kicked to get some of the other panels in placed. I should probably be welding it all up tomorrow.

glad you got it worked out....... some times you have to walk away and calm down; realize the mistake and correct it...... now you can move on knowing it's straight

can I get a milk shake?
Yeah, that's more my preference as well... I rarely drink anymore... Not opposed to it but just don't like how I feel the next day... Just a couple beers & I hurt... Getting old sucks... But it beats the alternative..
