1968 Charger

Well...I got a call last night at 8pm from the owner, my old shop teacher. I recognized his number and prepared for the worse and tried to form a response. He said, "are you still interested?" Very much so I said. He said "then you got a charger." He sounded real excited about it. Me...uff, I got so excited. Got a migraine after the call so I had to lay down...LOL.

Thank you all for your advice. I will continue to need your advice on taking care of this gem.

Even if you could get the green one for $10k, you'd be saving money in the long run buying the yellow one for $20k.

No one is selling the yellow one for 20k,its a 40k car in the current market. It screams scam!

My friend and I went to look at a 70 Challenger convertible 383 automatic transmission car. Plum crazy purple, fresh rebuilt 383 engine. Older paint,decent driver. The asking price was 20k,car was worth over 30k. Low ballers kept offering the seller 10k or less,hoping for a barn find score of a lifetime. I hooked up my car trailer and met my friend there. They haggled back and forth at 20k. My friend laid 17 stacks of money on the fender, each totaling a grand each,and after a brief discussion with his wife, we were loading the car on my trailer. That is the way to buy a car!

but the Backstory and the fact that he sold it to you,would probably make me throw him another grand.


btw,i have a similar story,albeit w a much less happy ending.
i too,used to ride the bus to school and see these 2 70 chargers Every day on the way.
after i got out of high school,i went straight into the Army.
came back many many years later first thing i did was go to his house.
the white charger was long gone,and the black one was rotted in half at the firewall and about a foot into the ground....
still,those 2 cars made me a Mopar guy,for a lifetime.
its Really Cool that its working out for you.

Sweet! Loads of potential in the 383, a really unsung engine. In your early posts - said the motor was replaced in 74? Is the original block around anywhere? Not a huge tragedy. Congratulations!

I don't know. I know it was replaced by his brother, a local mechanic at the time.

thank you. I was wondering about repair. I think the first think I need to fix some of the lights not working. One taillight, hood blinkers, dash lights. The tach doesn't work, the heater doesn't work. Driver seat is flattened out with garbage bag over it (he is a tall guy). The bare roof. Outside mirror and antenna. Just some of the things I know of after a quick look over on Monday.

As Chargervert said, you have a clock, not a tic-tock-tach. There is a lot of good restoration info on that other site I posted. The navigation is not as good as it is here, and the search function is useless. But the info there is worth reading, late evening after the garage.

Was the top green? Is it a triple pickle or is that black interior?
