Hi all,

It has been awhile since I've posted and I'm thinking about getting back into the MOPAR world. I sold my 70 Coronet R/T project and I miss it, even being in the garage as a project car that I know I would never get it done, I still miss it.

I hate to say it but I bought a 1996 LT-4 Corvette that is really a nice car and a fun car but its not a MOPAR. I'm looking at selling it and funding a new project/mission and it's called "Bring A MOPAR Home" and that is what I'm going to do, bring one home.

So the guy who bought my 1970 Coronet R/T has a 1968 Coronet R/T that needs a little work. He is going to send me pictures this coming week if I don't get them this weekend. He just redid all the interior with everything brand new. That is the good, the bad is it needs some body work.

The price of the car and if I get what I want out of my Vette, I will be able to sell it and have the new panels put in (Trunk patch panel, not full panel) and have the 1968 Coronet 500 passenger door fixed. The door had a molding down the side of it and it needs to be welded from the holes. I will then have the guy paint it while he has it. The guy owns a body shop and then also owns a restoration shop. He has been in many Mopar and muscle car magazines, he has some of the rarest of rare cars I have seen. He is a true Mopar guy.

So my question or questions are, what do I need to know about the 1968 R/T?

What knowen problem areas?

What parts will interchange from the model line up and what wont?

I remember that the 1970 Coronet 500 had the parts that would interchange with my R/T so I'm just looking to see what I need to know about the 1968s.

So tell me everything and anything I need to know about the 1968 model year and the R/Ts, just anything about the 1968 Coronet models.

Thanks everyone.

I think the 68 and 69 parts are interchangeable except for the tail light panel and grille. The 70 model was redesigned and the new 'bumble bee' grille is a turn off.

`68's had 1 year only trunklid, tail lights, grille. Hoods will interchange, the 500 and the R/T had the same trim level just different badging. There's a lot to tell, you should get yourself over to the Hamtramk registry site for some more info.

Cruise on over to the project and resto forum and check out any of the `68, 9 & `70 threads to see where they all rust.

check the trunk lid for rust. one year only, and $$ when you do find a good one. the front clip and doors are the same '68-'69 (except for the markers and the extra piece on the '69 hood), and tons of four doors were made. good luck!

Actually the 68 doors are 1 year only too, the interior lock is further back then the 69 & 70.

Thanks everyone, always something new to learn in the Mopar world. I always hate that so many one year only parts, but thats why we like them as well.

This one is blue on blue with I think a black top. I have not gotten any other info on it yet and I'm learning what I can before I go and look at it and I'm waiting to sell my Vette.

There are so many cars out there right now to chose from and I really like this body style. I also miss a Challenger R/T that I once owned.

correct on the locks, but the doors otherwise are the same. I've used '68 doors on '69s and visa versa. hard to pass up rust free doors just because the lock button isn't in the right spot.:eusa_angel:

Any way of moving the locks so they are correct?

Yeah if I sell my Vette I will be picking this one up, if I can sell the Vette I do have a guy with a 72 340 Duster wanting to trade.

well if really wanted to go thru the trouble, I guess you could weld the hole and drill one in the other spot, and you'd need the other linkage for the door lock.

Welcome back the the mopar world man...good luck on picking up the '68.

Thanks man, I have had a few offers on the Vette and funny thing is a few are MOPAR trades. I'm waiting till Sunday to see if a 71 Road Runner sales or not and then we may trade cars. The one guy that was looking at my Vette was going to buy until he found a 65 Shelby need a major restoration so he went that route. I had a guy offer 7000 for the Vette tonight and I said Im around 8000 so I will see what happens.

I got pics of the 68 tonight looks like it needs a little body work but not major. The drivers side rear panel looks like it may need a patch not a full panel. He did say something about a trunk pan but wasnt sure. The guy has over 100 cars and he couldnt remember at the time on the phone a week ago.

I will try to post some pics later of the car.

I wanted to add something too, as it has been awhile I've been in the mopar world let alone a car world that I need to decode cars.

The 68 fender tags, it has the right digits for an R/T and so does the vin# but if my memory serves me right they didnt put the full vin# on the fender tag..........right?

My plan is to grab it if my Vette sells and I have the funds for it. If my Vette doesnt sell I may be able to trade for a 71 Road Runner.

The Road Runner doesnt have a title is am Alabama car so law says no title just bill of sale and registration, I hope VA law will let me get a title.....

Back to the R/T I want it!!! :headbang:
