I need to get a air intake with a EGR valve system does anyone make one for a 340 motor? I am running a carter 4 barrel and all is original except purple cam shaft. Running around 10 to 1 compression and it spark knocks. We suspect bad gas but have tried 100 octane low lead from the local air strip and it still spark knocks. I have worked with the carb jets and metering rods to get the car to her it does not knock as badly but if I have to get into the trottle it knocks.

Any help with locating the proper air intake would be appreciated.

Got an electronic distributer running and through another chat room I heard about a spring kit to retard timing at 2000 rpm which is where ours starts to spark knock. Anyone have this problem or tried this spring kit?

You should make sure the total timing with the vac advance disconnected is at 36-38 deg at around 2300 RPM. With the vac advance hooked up you should get maybe another 8-10 degrees at part throttle (where the ported vac signal is high). It's possible you are getting too much vac advance. 10:1 compression is not helping the situaton either.

you'll have better luck.....

over on "For A Bodies Only".

That's where the small blocks are in greater numbers.
