1968 GTX.. Gonna need advice and parts.

Got this bad boy in October. Found her in the mountains of Virginia. She is pretty complete. Gonna need a lot of new body metal mostly on back half of car, front appears pretty solid so far. I am gonna do a complete restoration over the next how ever many years it takes. From what I have been able to desifer from what is left of the fender tag, this car was made in Jan. at the detroit plant. It was white w red interior and stripes and a black vinyl top. It came with , and still has, factory air and tinted glass. This GTX is a console auto 440 with buckets. The only things worth saving from interior is the dash and the shifter. I will be looking for parts so any help would be appreciated. The most glaring needs so far are interior door panels and a hood along with floor pans and both rear quarters.

I'm near the end of my build and have had to buy just about everything along the way. As far as sheet metal goes I used two, ABS and AMD with ABS being the first and was not happy. The AMD metal on the other hand proved to be a much better product and fit very well, had sharper lines and was also made of thicker metal. I bought mine probably 4 years ago and have heard of some issues since then but they are still the best out there to my knowledge. For the interior you can check with Year one or Legendary, both sell new skins that can be installed yourself. Any other parts you might need just ask there are a lot of knowledgeable guys on here to help. I see you've kicked of your resto thread. Good luck and take lots and lots of pictures as you take things apart and like 747 said check out Props thread. It's excellent as are the rest in the resto area.

Good luck with your project, I'm restoring a 68 GTX as well. Do you have the build sheet? Is it matching numbers? I've found a lot of stuff on ebay by just checking it daily. Best of luck and welcome to the site

Welcome, that sure looks like it will be a beauty when it's done. Remember just focus on the task at hand not the whole picture. You don't want it to be overwhelming. Along with the AMD panels I also use Shermans. They don't have as much but it's cheaper than AMD and I think just as good.

Those front door and rear panels have unique metal trim on them for 68 GTX or Sport Satellite only that don't come with the new replacement door panels so if you don't have your originals and need a set i have them PM me

I will second the recommendation of buying your AMD metal from Jeff@521Restorations. He's a great guy with great pricing and offers a discount if you are a member here. Try to get everything ordered at the same time as far as metal goes because shipping 1 item separately costs a fortune.
