1968 Plymouth Roadrunner- Satellite. my tribute project

That's they way things are supposed to work! You helped me in a big way and i help you anyway i can. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!!

Agree...this weather sucks. Feels like December

Yeah, That QQ1 POPS with a Black Vinyl top! I have a 68-X In QQ1 and bright blue interrior. Getting it ready for paint as we speak.
I'm tackling it all by myself, so it's a little here, and a little there. Your project looks good, and it's nice to not have to fix rat-holes
all over. Keep posting the pic's! That's what keeps the rest of us going.

As you probably know, the QQ1 was a one year only color. Not a lot of information available for it.
Could you tell us the brand of paint you are using, the type ( ie: base coat clear coat, acrylic enamel, urathane etc. ) and where to get it? ...............Thank you.......................MO

That's an easy one!

According to the label, that appears to be a GM color. How did you know it is QQ1 Electric Blue? Just trying to solve the mystery...........Thanks for your input......................MO
Well, as you stated earlier, there isn't alot of info out there on this color. The formulas for paint are just generic. The
Flake brilliance and size are specified, the colors are blended to reflect light the same way the original color did. Everything is mixed by weight. The last part of the puzzle is that I masked off a section of my untouched inner trunk lid and shot a test panel. Right on the money, only the material is superrior to the original "swill" that the factory used!
By the way, it's basecoat/clearcoat, and I will use three coats of Spies Hecker 8000 series clear over the top.

Took the interior out , including the carpet. Good to see there is no rust through in the floors. Some surface rust that will be easy to take care of. Need to chip out the old loose seam sealer and re-seal. Found that the buddy seat did not have mounting brackets, just a couple bolts through the driveshaft tunnel to attach it. Fellow FBBO member , PP1RT, fixed me up with the brackets and an old buddy seat--also a right outside mirror and the parts to fix my left outside remote mirror...Thanks Dale !
Bucket seats, door panels to the upholstery guy . Seats will have new buns and stock seat covers. The door panels have had some wrinkles smoothed out and SEM vinyl painted. I cleaned the rear seat and it will also be painted black. He found a power seat base from a Dodge Diplomat or Dynasty( bucket) and will make it work with my car. If I could just get the body guy in gear and get his stuff finished up... April 6 - mid 20's temps, and snow! Will Spring ever get here? ......................MO
As per the above post concerning the buddy seat brackets that PP1RT..Dale
provided me with, I decided to trim down the piece of floor with the brackets and attach it over my existing floor. It fits snug and will save a lot of work , and won't be seen. I cleaned the undercoating off, sand blasted it, and now it is painted . I think I will attach it with pop rivets in case I may want to take it back off.
I have also been removing seam sealer, wire wheeling off rust, and applying rust converter on the floor. Floor is in very good condition except for a few very small holes near the dimmer switch.

Been going on a year since I updated my build thread, and a lot has happened since then. Both quarter skins finished, New vinyl top installed, whole car in epoxy white primer, painted grille, put the new AMD Road Runner hood on, New Keystone Classic wheels with new tires, New trunk finish panel, new carpet and reproduction front seat covers with new padding-buns, reupholstered and mounted the buddy serat, adapted a 6 way power seat base from a Dodge Diplomat, Re stretched the front door panel upholstery, Painted the door panels and rear seat with SEM landau black which matched the front seats perfectly, New front windshield, ...wire brushed, seam sealed, new floor plugs, painted, sound deadener, heat barrier , the floors. All new dual exhaust with Dyno Max mufflers. Drove it several miles this past Summer. Drives great and quiet, but it does burn some oil.. Tore it all back down this Fall and took out engine and transmission for rebuild . Finish the body work and new paint . ....... Continued ............MO

No picture yet, but I installed the Plymouth style oval tail pipe tips too.........................MO............

I painted behind the grill , black. My 64 Dodge pictured with this Satty, was at the local car show. I sold it in August. The 440 and 4 speed I could handle 8 years ago when I started building it, but time has taken it's toll on me...too FAST !!............................MO

Been gonna ask how the motor/trans rebuild is going?

We might be finally breaking out of winter. Sure will be nice to work outside again once the mud goes away...

Great work MO. Looking good. Hope the snow melting isn't causing any flooding near you.

So, How's the AMD hood out of the box? I got one about a year ago and I couldn't use it.
It had about twenty hours of work. Took it back to the local distributor and got my money back.
Don't know if I'd do that again! Keep moovin along!

Trans. was checked, adjusted, gaskets and seals ..$98.00 by a specialist.. Engine bored, new pistons , decked, cam bearings and new cam- lifters. , Heads overhauled with hardened exhaust valve seats, New exhaust valves. Hot tanked all parts. Crankshaft polished. Good machine shop. Engine now at mechanic's to be assembled . I'm not going to put this one together, and it will be warranted.
FINALLY ! Most snow melted, and 59 degree this afternoon ! More rain forecast tomorrow......YUCK..............................MO

No bad flooding like in areas around us. Rivers are up, but still inside the banks..............MO

My hood was in very good condition when it arrived. Hopefully we have the latch and safety catch issue fixed , with the modifications we had to make to my early 1968 header panel.....................MO

So, this early Winter, I took the engine out for rebuild , transmission out for a check over with new seals and gaskets. Tear the car down for finishing the body work and new QQ1 Electric Blue paint. This is a one year only color -1968.
This tribute car will look like the new Road Runner we ordered from the factory in 1968...Even the Keystone Classic wheels..............MO
