1968 production Build Dates

Wondering if anyone knows how to find the Production Build Date on a 1968 Plymouth if the Fender Tag is gone. Trunk lip and Rad Support don’t show Production Date.

If it's got the original engine in it you can probably get close with the engine build date stamp on the block.

Even if you had the tag, the SPD is an administrative function unrelated to actual production. Cars were built well before and after the SPD.

Cars were built out of order so comparing VINs to another car for the SPD is inaccurate as to actual assembly. You can probably get 'close' with an estimated SPD for your car by comparing VINs but that will not help with the actual assembly date. If 'sometime in Mid September SPD' is fine for you to help find reasonably accurate dated coed parts, then this route will work.

The best way to estimate production with no supporting documentation is to look at various original date codes of things still on the car. I've seen some research that indicates the K frame date code tends to be one of the 'latest' dates on cars meaning it was closest to actual assembly. Looking for date coded components gets you 'no earlier than' dates.

Thanks for that idea with the date codes, But if I had a Fender tag the SPD is on the tag.
