1968 Road Runner real or fake?

I have been told that the LL1 was only available for a few months on the Road Runner in `68, same color mine was originally and will be again. That an ac car with the 26" rad?, windows look tinted. Can you post more pics of underhood and interior?

This LL1 car is a September build. I have tags from LL1 cars built in April and July so it looks like LL was available all year.

Racking my brain-pan..I don't ever remember seeing a RR with sill mouldings OR wheel wellmouldings..Must be pretty rare. I thought they all had 22" radiators too? Maybe not.

Man, who can you trust these days? I don't even remember where I heard that, Moparts maybe?

http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/ is your friend.

The bulk of the old car hobby believes that unless there is some other factory documentation (as in technical or sales bulletin releases after previously released factory info to make a correction) that overrides what is in the dealer data books and color and upholstery books sent to the dealers for aiding customers in ordering the car of their choice, that THIS is the source for accurate information on our cars.

Everything else is a guess or a hope in someone's mind to justify what they THINK or WISH was factory produced for THEIR car.

This is not to say that there were not factory screw ups or special orders with equipment that was not typically available for a given model. The problem is win these cases is that the burden of proof is with the person making the claim that what they have is factory. I can tell you that back in the day if a high powered executive of the company wanted something special on their car they would find a way to get it weather it was factory or dealer installed. If the broadcast sheet survives for on of these cars it will reflect it IF it were installed from the factory or scheduled for off site supplier prior to being delivered to the dealer. It HAD to happen this way in order for the workers to know what to do to the car for the special equipment/paint/interior/option.

The dealership I worked for was very small and carried a very limited inventory so we ordered a lot of cars for customers with exactly what they wanted. Larger dealers had a big inventory that customers could likely find something that fit their needs for immediate purchase. I relied on these factory provided date and trim books EVERYDAY back in the day and we often got sales bulletins, replacement pages, paste over sections for the original pages, etc. It was the same with the parts books with new superceding pages for everchanging things and deletions of old parts or replacement part numbers for old parts.

Nice car I have a 68 LL1 with D4L. Mine is a low option car auto and am radio thats it. Not very many 68 RR with the D4L interior.

I had no fender tag or build sheet with mine so the only info I could gather was with evidence I found during the resto. Some obvious and some not but the highlights would be 383, 4spd, post, LL1, Black interior, no p.s. or p.b., pretty sure it had the decor package and it certainly was an a.c. car with tinted glass and the big radiator.

And as 696pak stated.....Everything Mopar is set in stone...subject to change at any moment.

And having somebody far up the food chain means stuff can be gotten despite what the books say.

My dad's 68 Coronet 440 cop car with a 440 in it proves it. It even had a rear sway bar on it.

can you get a new finder tag if so where or how can i find one i dont have one with my car it got lost through the restoration

950 = MOLDINGS =
9= Sill molding
5= Drip rail molding
0 = body belt moldings

the car is not coded for wheel well moldings.

AX/68 = 8.75 rear end with 3.23 gears and Sure Grip.
D4L = interior code = Deluxe Interior, 4 = vinyl bench seat L = parchment and Tan
LL1 = exterior paint = L = medium dark turquoise paint; 1 = car is painted all one color
U/Y = inner upper door frame painted to match interior

A/1 = 26" radiator
C/4 = HD suspension with sway bar
R/1 = 421 = AM radio
h/7 = 517 = hood mounted turn signal indicators
k/7 = outside right hand manual mirror.

under AX-68 is more than likely a 355 sure grip 83/4, a 323 would be a 48 on fender tag, for the high performance car a 68 was 354 Dana

You are supposed to find this stuff out before the purchase. It's called Caveat Emptor.
Forget rare. It is a nice B Body, just enjoy it and do what you please with it.

Nice catch. That would explain the 26" radiator.
