Produced untill the 1970 model year when it was replaced by the then new 340.
The 340 came out in 68 so there was a two year overlap (68 & 68) with the 273.

I have found this to be the case some times but not allways with the 68 model year. The title could have had either of the numbers on it. The big thing is the body number consistant threw out it other locations. A good dmv will know the locations to check. We had the problem of a title not matching the vin during a Kansas inspection years ago fortunately the inspector was smart enough not to consider it illigite and sent us on for futher inspection. It was determined the car was indeed titled using the vechical number and all worked out.The body numbers on a 68 are not the VIN numbers. The VIN is not on a 68 fender tag.
E8R708399 is unrelated to the VIN. That is the shipping order number.
The VIN is only on the dash plate.
Where the 68 & 69 273 blocks taken from previous inventory or are they actual 68 & 69 castings?The 340 came out in 68 so there was a two year overlap (68 & 68) with the 273.

I really appreciate all of the helpful information!!Given that there were ~70,000 273s installed in 68 and 69, I would presume the were new castings.
