1969 Charger Project

Get it freed up and to a machine shop for inspection/evaluation as a starting point. Have the trans looked at too with a trans shop. And while they are out of the hole, clean, paint, freshen up systems etc. Great start you have. Make a shopping and to do list to help keep you organized. BTW, your neighborhood background looks like the area my BIL lives in. It would be funny to see if you are neighbors.
That's all part of my game plan, so good to know I'm on track!

The block has been completely disassembled now. My non-professional opinion is that it doesn't look terrible and the primary concern would be any corrosion within the water jackets. I called around this morning to some engine shops for quotes on hot tank and magnaflux (much more reasonably-priced than I expected). If the block checks out, I'll get the cam bearings replaced and have the crank inspected for reuse as well.
I'm not terribly concerned about the heads as I think I'll go with the Edelbrock Performer RPM power package which is essentially a complete top end minus rocker assembly and pushrods.
Enjoy the photo updates!

Invest in some engine cleaning brushes for after its tanked. Find out where all of the oil galley plugs are so you can remove them to clean the galleys. And don't forget to put them back in! Laundry soap and hot water.

Also, run some taps through all of the threaded holes for fasteners. Oil pan rail, main caps, timing cover, water pump housing, head bolts, back of the block etc.

Don't forget to check the vin # on the trans and engine to see if they are original. That may impact your decision making.

Engine is original, transmission is not. For that reason my plan/hope is to rebuild the 383 and pair it with a SilverStone 5-speed. I don't want to go full restomod, but a couple of modern touches will be nice IMO.
