I don't know if this topic has been discussed here before but was wondering why the two different script types on the 69 shifter handle I am trying to help a friend of mine restore his 69 GTX that the previous owner had converted to automatic and was wondering if the script type was dependent on the cars build date

I believe the first single script was early 68 hurst style and then it changed to the second style after that sometime late 68-69.

Neither looks correct to me ????? I have a stock 69 GTX but it has been a while since I sat in it. When I get over there again I'll take a couple pictures and post them. I remember the tower being chromed and round with the Hurst logo being nicely stamped much more like the second picture than the first. However I think there was black paint in the logo to make it stand out more.

I believe early 68 cars would have had the inland style shifter. So maybe later 68 cars and early 69 build?

Sorry, kind of like a kid in the candy store for me. I haven't thought about cars for quite a while. For the last 20 years I've driven a pickup with no brand loyalty. Lease them, just transportation and a tow vehicle for toys. This site has stirred a long dormant interest in me :)

Back to the Hurst logo, please disregard what I wrote above. It is what I remember, but I do not trust my memory. I was looking a 4 speed cars for sale to see the shifters and confirm my memory. I can't. All the shifters I seen were bent or dog legged to put the knob closer to the driver. They look flimsy, I do not remember my shifter looking like that.

I will take a couple pictures and post them when I get over to the GTX

Yea I shoulda worded that better for sure. I meant when they switched to the Hurst style ys. the Inland early to mid 68 and then shortly after end of 68-69 it went to the other style.

I just checked mine ('69 Road Runner with console), and it looks just like the picture on the right.

Do you mean the thin script or the wider script and just out of curiosity when was your car built
