1969 Plymouth 318 904 Transmission questions

Well, I got the car registered and insured yesterday. I took it out for a first drive and she did very well. I went out for coffee with it this morning and cruised around locally and had a blast in it. I had attended a local car get together and met a few guys with antiques cars and made some friends there. One of them had a 1969 Roadrunner. He told me where he lives and told me to swing by once I got the car registered. So, today was the day. He was washing his runner when I drove up and he just lit up when he saw my car. He told me to NOT buy ANY parts without talking to him first. He has tons of parts, for 1969 Roadrunners, as well as Satelites like mine. We talked for hours and before I left, he had opened his garage and said that he had several parts that I needed. He just gave them to me! I was chocked and VERY thankful! I now have a schedule of shows in the area and auto part flea markets too! I as one very happy guy right now.

Yes, it was really nice of him! I went to a small car show about 2 miles from my house and brought my Sport Satellite. My wife went as well, it was her first ride in it. We had a great time there. There ere about 9 cars and owners that after looking over my car, were very impressed with how solid of a condition it is in. They also had their own stories of when they got theirs and the condition that theirs was in when they got them. I also got many recommendations for finding reasonable priced parts and services, locally. All in all, a great night and time well spent. I( also got the schedule for shows all over the County that we live in.

I am still looking for a sure grip with 3.23 gear to replace the stock unit. Also going to take the Satellite to a transmission shop, to have the transmission looked at. I have not forgotten to get these things taken care of, but the front end and steering issues have taken my immediate attention to those matters first. I still need to buy a steering box towards that problem.
When I get to the Trans and rear end issues, I will post the results here. Many thanks to those that have posted in this thread with advice and suggestions that are most appreciated.

UPDATE: I bought an 8.25 Sure grip, 27 spline (same as mine). Also purchased 4 Specialty Wheels GT 500's with BF Goodrich Radials mounted and balanced. A friend of mine is going to go over my 904 Transmission and "beef" it up, install the trans fluid cooler and lines, as well. Things are coming together now.

The std 904 converter isn't all that bad. The MOST important thing is to make sure the throttle pressure linkage has the correct geometry. Adding the 4 barrel carb results in the throttle attachment point from the throttle shaft to have a different dimension than that of a 2 barrel. It is imperative that the throttle arm length matches the carb. If not the transmission pressure will be low under acceleration causing rapid internal failure of the clutches and bands. The 904 itself is plenty sturdy.

dvw, I will be sure to check into that before the installation is begun. Many Thanks for this info.
The Sure Grip unit arrived this afternoon. One question that I have is this: What is an "auburn style" unit? It has the right spline number (27) and is for earlier than 1997 vehicles.
