1969 Plymouth Road Runner steering wheels

Hello there

I am actually good friends with some one restoring a 1969 road runner, that car is pretty much the love of my friend's life, the car is not completely finished, but somehow close to be and is already a really nice bird, loud and proud. What kills me is that he uses a home made steering wheel cover that is just a piece of black foam that he tied with something that reminds me of zip ties, that is just wrong. I want to order for him a custom made leather cover, but with that horrible “pseudo-cover” around the wheel and the guy keeping a close eye on his baby I can’t measure the dimensions of the wheels to order it. Is there anyone with the same model/year of road runner that could help me by sending the measurements for me? I need the outside diameter and the grip circumference. Also I was thinking on ordering it from Wheelskins, does anybody knows a better place or are they a good company?

It depends on what wheel he has,,, There were options on this item from the factory. Mine had a simulated wood grain and the metal center spokes with the beep beep center horn button. Others were a "traditional" style steering wheel that you might find in other B-bodys of the same year.

I found a website with some photos of the same steering wheel model that my friend has.

If you scroll down there are two photos of the interior of a runner, the photos have the caption "Walter Patruskey III's 1969 Road Runner at allpar.com" That is the same interior that my friend has, with the same steering wheel model.

Most of them in the 60's and 70's were 16 inch outside diameter with the exception of the Tuff Wheel. The wheel you're referring to is one of the 16 inch wheels. The grip circumference is about the same as a dime. If you're going to get a wrap for it, I would think they have a little flexibility so you should be good.
