I am helping a friend paint a 69 Road runner. I need some help on hood stripes. What are the measurements to stripe the hood, parts of the fender tops and center body color stripes.? how wide at the windshield and how wide where it ends at the grille ? I also need distance on the fenders where the black would start at the cowl and front. What is everyone using for black. The car is orange. Thanks ,Gary

i have found the measurements, now i need the black or what everyone has been using. Great site ,,Gary

I read some reviews on paintin the stripes awhile back and if I remember right most said if your going factory there is a black paint that rat rodders use it's supposedly the same look, But others have painted plain black stripes and then clear coated over them and they look pretty good too. Plus it makes waxing easier lol.

You mean orange with black stripes like this? The outside edge of the stripe can start from either the top edge of the door where it meets the cowl or the outside base of the windshield A pillar where it meets the cowl. I have seen examples of both and the deciding factor may be if the car had a vinyl top. My car had a top and the stripes started from the door edge if that means anything. The gap in the middle is speced at 12" (I think my car actually measured 11.5"). The stripe width is consistent all the way down. The correct paint is called organisol and the code is 9355. It has a slight texture to it and the formula calls for metallic. It's really neat stuff if done properly.

Oh, by the way, the grille filler panel is supposed to be body color. I was just fitting the new part so it still had the black primer on it.

I need to make a correction in my first post. My car has the stripes starting from the edge of the door but the others I have seen started on the inside of the A pillar. Here's another pic of my car before it got painted. Obviously someone painted the hood black but you can better see how the stripes go.
