1969 Road Runner preservation

Both are badass but one’s a little sexier;-)

Upholstery shop did a great job replacing the pleated section on the back only, the seat bottom is all original. Seatbelts cleaned up great but are a little sun faded. I printed a color copy of the build sheet and put it back under the seat in the same location, keeping the original in a safer place.

Interior is all back together and looks amazing for almost 56 years old. Everything‘s original except for the pleated/rolled sections in the middle of the front seats and the pleated/rolled back only of the backseat.

Looks great! I got some very nice results re-dying some faded seatbelts with this. It’s been awhile, but if I recall correctly, it didn’t really impact the white labels.

I was very tempted to die the seatbelts, but I’m walking that fine line between preservation and restoration. I thought that would cross it so I stuck to just cleaning and detailing;-)

I have started welding in new metal from where the fender well headers were cut in. In the first picture circled in red is a flange that was cut off of the Shock tower. If anybody has one of these Shock towers they have cut out of a restoration. I would love to buy that flange for both sides.

Good call. I have used the Rit dye before, and it worked well on the belts. But it did turn my white labels a purplish hue. I did leave them soaking for quite awhile however.
 
Driver side, inner fender well all welded up. I was able to make the shock tower flange and and after die grinding the weld it looks factory. Passenger side is next and then the fun part trying to paint the new sheet metal to look like it’s 56 years old;-)

No more header holes;-) Nice to have this project behind me so I can focus on detailing the engine bay so that I can put the engine back in soon!
Last picture is what’s left of the inner fenders. If anyone can use them for their project, they are free, + shipping. Sorry, somebody already claimed the battery tray area.

The original trunk mat cleaned up pretty good with just some spray nine and a small scrub brush. Then to prevent some of the tears from getting worse I used an inflatable patch kit designed for air mattresses and swimming pools on the backside. Not sure if it will last another 56 years but I think I’ll get at least another 10 or 15 out of it;-)
