I am venturing into my first Mopar project. I have my Roadrunner on the rotisserie and have finished up all the work underneath and am working on the sides. Hoping to get underside as well as engine compartment, trunk, and interior painted in the next couple weeks. After that, will start reassembling the suspension to make it a roller again. Can anyone point me in the direction of what should be painted what color? I assume everything I mentioned previously should be painted body color, but looking for someone to tell me if that is not correct. Also looking for something that shows what color the rear axle, springs, torsion bars, sway bar, steering, control arms, etc should be painted. the car it not going to be a numbers matching trailer queen, but I would at least like it to be painted correct or as correct as possible. Thanks in advance for your help

HERE'S a few small tips that you see wrong often.
Hood safety should be Black Phosphate with bolts but hood catch bar and bolts should be body color.
Hood pop up spring also Black Phosphate NOT body color. Hood latch could be Black Phosphate or another coating but no body color.
Trunk catch and bolts body color but not latch mechanism.
Interior inner door frames are called out on your fender tag NEVER body color same with reat upper door frame.
Door latches and strikers NEVER body color .
All fender attachment bolts painted with underhood also hood hinges and bolts.
Don't paint the bolt at the rear of front fender opening that attaches to inner fender sheild, it should be Black Phosphate and also lower bolt and bar that holds the bar to the front bumper bracket.
That should start you off for now. IMG_3063.jpgIMG_3062.jpgIMG_3069.jpgIMG_3033 (Large).jpgIMG_0020.jpgIMG_0036_1 (Large).jpgIMG_0367 (Large).jpg

lol....... ask, and you shall receive :HappyNewYear:

thank you very much for your pictures. they help a lot. do you have any more underside pictures? Looking for pictures of the k member, steering, control arms, etc. Not sure what colors they are supposed to be.

thanks

Here's some although not OE perfect they are better than most.
The upper control arms should be bare metal look and can have Cosmoline on them like lowers. These in the picture were sprayed by a previous owner.

Go to this Hoffman link, although this car was done about 15 or so years ago it is done very nice.

Now go to this Southern Motors Yellow 70 Runner to see what a poor restoration looks like!!!

This is a useful post. Thank you.

OK here's a 70 Road Runner Vert. forsale on e-bay right now. A member on Moparts brought it back from the dead a couple of years ago and then sold it for what he had into it. then next guy took it to a big auction and that owner got 10K more for the car and now it's forsale again and the price is struggling.
The guy that restored it is a nice guy from the little bit I know of him. There are some flaws on this car I will show not to knock the restorer but to help others realize how easy it would have been to do these right when it was under restoration. DISCLAIMER: I would love to own this car and the resto. is very nice .
The fender bolt was painted with fender. NG
The sound deadner was not sprayed back onto the inner quarter panels after replacement. NG
The upper control arm bolts were painted with engine compartment . NG
The hood safety latch bolts body color. NG
The hood catch not being painted with the hood. NG

Thanks to all???
I'm the only one helping you out:werd:

Well, thank you RJS. I really do appreciate your help. I wish you were closer so that I could look more extensively at your car. I would have trouble completing the car correctly without your help. I know the car isnt going to be a 100 point show car, but I dont want anyone to look at the car and say "why would he do it that way, that is just wrong."

glad to see another Ohio road runner coming back to life. let's see some pics!

You're new to this, aren't you....I have seen unmolested cars at shows, and heard where _______ was wrong. Same with 'restorations', there will always be people pointing out something. Most of them hire someone to do their cars, and then, nitpick others. RJS I think does his own work, his cars are beautiful, to the point I would be afraid to drive them. Either way, the yellow RR is a great what not to do. Notice things like the top of the shocks, etc. They didn't tape off a single thing when they painted. I could swear when that one originally popped up it had wires and some stuff on the firewall painted yellow, as well. But, the big things are ask questions if you want to know what a particular part should be painted. There are certain things I would do the factory didn't, namely some kind of rust prevention, at least if its a driver. The suspension parts should be certain colors, but, again on a driver, my choice would be powder coat, there's reasons we have to blast/replace so many things on these cars, and unless you want to just be back at square one almost immediately, I'd address it...just my opinion, and only based on you saying not a trailer queen...

Beastly, I am new to mopar, but not new to restoration. I restored a 68 Camaro z28 about 4 years ago. It is a pretty rare car and I have owned it for 33 years and it was my first car. After restoring that car, I learned a lot and I can see things that I know are correct and someone did in their own restoration. I guess the difference is something you pointed out in you post is that I did everything on my car and I know what it takes. Some people write a check and have no idea what it takes. I guess I don't want to feel like someone is picking out what I did wrong. I also did a 65 mustang but just did things the way I wanted with that car. I didn't necessarily lean on being correct. With mopars being rarer and worth more money, I want it to be as correct as possible. This is going to be a driver and not a show car. I really do appreciate the advice I get since I can not find anywhere to get this info. Here is a list of what I need paint advice on if members can help me.

rear springs, shackles, u bolts, shock mounting plates, rear brake hose bracket, k member, upper and lower control arms, torsion bars, core support to k member bracket, brake booster, master cylinder. I am sure I will have more questions as I go along.

I wasn't seriously saying you were new to restoring cars, I was joking that even with a perfect factory original, someone would point out something, lol. My advice on suspension is just powder coat as much as you can, the right colors, you'll be happy you did...

BeastlyBird Thanks for the compliments:hello2: I only have one car now and it's a very nice Driver.

Most of these questions are answered in the Hoffman site I put the link up to.
Some parts we would need to know what you have like years and type of braking system.

If your talking 69 power Disc brakes which should be a Bendix system than your master and booster are painted with a slightly flattened Black as an assembly by the vendor.
If you have power drum setup and use a Midland Ross setup it would most likely be Gold cad. booster and natural master with Gold cad. cover.
I'll include a picture of each but post up pictures of what you have to show us also.

Bad news to anyone using the the Hoffman site (1969 Dodge R/T Convertible) as a reference - linky no longer worky!

I was hoping to see if there were photos showing the extent of the sound deadener on the inside of the quarters since my car is going to be painted in the very near future, and wanted to get the deadener applied before doing so.

I tried a search but nothing is really coming up - anyone have photos of this? and what has product has typically been used here?

thanks!
