I saw an older thread on this topic but there was no response. I am looking to stay with 15" wheels and am wondering what size tires will look the best on a '70 Coronet? Ideally, I don't want to modify the frame or suspension, i.e. tubs. Are 295's too wide for the rear and 275's for the front? I prefer a staggered size setup.

What color is your ride? We're you thinking normal radials or perhaps redlines?

I have a 1970 Plymouth Sport Satellite. The biggest tire I can get on the back of my car is a 275/60/15 and they are almost touching the fender lip. You could always trim the fender lip a bit to fit a larger tire. I have 235 on the front. I've herd talk that Dodge B Bodys could fit a larger tire then a Plymouth B body car.

Generally, 235/60-15 front on 7" & 275/60-15 rear on 8" are optimum. You "can" do wider, but it really depends on backset.

8x15 front with 245/60 and 15x10 rear with 295/50 on a 70 RR. no problems.

I would actually like to go with redline tires but the widest I have seen is 235/60/15. As far as the color of my car, it's pretty much gray and black primer. I haven't tackled the body work yet. Originally the car was light gold metallic and I'm thinking about going back to that color when it's time.

The 235's don't look too small with 275 on the rear? That's almost a 2" width difference.

It's hard to find wide redlines. I have some 17" magnums w redlines from Coker they look wonderful but aren't the widest tire maybe 9" at most. But 68-70. Plymouth/Dodge b-bodies look gorgeous w redlines. I say don't be afraid to go for it. They are a bit pricey though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was hoping to stay with 15" black steel wheels, no dog dish. It seems the tire/wheel combinations are endless and pretty major commitment (money wise). It's not something I want to mess up and then regret.

I agree and would be very cautious. I got mine mounted and balanced from Summit. I had advice from a Mopar guys that knows. Going bigger than 275 can be risky. At Track day, the inside legt rear will barely kiss the leaf spring when pushed. Also, I allowed a friend to bolt them on his 68 Barracuda and they did not clear the outside lip. That is one way to be sure. Borrow 15" wheel with 295 and physically put it on. Based on what I have read here, 68, 69, 70 B Bodies have significant variations of clearance. Good luck.
