Hello, and thanks for all replies. I have a 70 GTX and the turn signal indicator switch had a melt down. Actually caught fire and smoked out. I replaced it with a used unit from ebay. (bad move I believe) After I installed it in the car it is now blowing the fuse for the interior lights which runs off the same fuse. When you open the doors the lights blink a couple times and then blow the fuse. I unplugged the turn signal switch and the light/fuse issue went away....So my question is? The car won't start with the turn signal switch unplugged. Is there a way to start the car so I can Move it while I wait for a new switch? Any body replace one with a year one replacement switch?

Thanks

The light for the ignition switch is probably grounded thats what is probably blowing the fuse ,

That was 1970 smoke and you let it get out!! Factory original smoke. Oh well, just kidding. There is a naked place somewhere in your harness(old or new) that needs to be addressed. They are easy to skin when installing them.

That 1970 smoke is hard to replace! Just like the 1970 air in the tires I have sitting around!LoL

check the overhead lamp and make sure it is correct it very easy to have the wrong bulb in there also check the door switches remove them and make sure the wires are not chaffed behind where they are mounted there is nothing wrong with used parts as long as they are good the switch could have melted down as a result of the true issue that you did not find as of yet. It does not make sense for the car not to start with the switch disconnected if I had the schematics I could walk you through it too bad you are not in Jersey I am the electrical master

I need an electrical master, too bad you aint in michigan Id cook you some grub. Are you sure car should still fire up with the turn signal indicator unplugged. The key light wasnt hooked up it is a separate wire I left unhooked. Also interior lights and door switches worked fine before melt down and work fine with replacement switch unplugged. I also replaced the ignition key lock set but I believe that just turns the ignition switch and doesnt have anything to do electrically on its own. What do you think? thanks kevin

The light in the ignition was never hooked up and still isn't. It is a separate wire. Lights flash in a hazard light rhythm before it blows. All worked fine before I put in new switch. I noticed the turn signal arm very loose before meltdown and upon inspection the meltdown was all around the spot where the arm connected to the switch.

If you can pm me with the schematics of the circuits I can help, do you think the charger is the same I can possibly borrow the shop manual from my uncle my car is a 67 and probably will not work

Here is a link to a 1970 plymouth manual. I can take a picture of the original manual I have but I dont think the resolution would be so good and I dont have a scanner available. If you dont mind following this link and scroll down to 1970 plymouth manual. Then scroll to section 8-146 its listed in electrical Fig 29 Instrument panel wiring diagram Belvedere 8-146 and 8-147. If you would rather have a photo let me know.

Thanks 440+6 also
