1970 Plymouth GTX 440/6

I have a 1970 Plymouth GTX 440/6. The car is fairly stock and I'd like to keep it that way.

I need a distributor. The correct original cast iron Prestolite is out of my price range. I'd like to get one that is very similar to the original. I also was thinking of putting in electronic ignition, perhaps Pertronix.

1) Can anyone suggest a place to find an original appearing cast iron Prestolite? I know some 440s and 383s used a similar one? I'd kinda like to get one that's already rebuilt and ready to go.

I'm sure you are aware that, although 440 (RB) and 383 (B) look the same, the basic difference is the shaft to bottom of flange dimension, with the RB being longer to accomodate the block height difference. Great Lakes NOS had an origional dual point Prestolite distributor available for approx $500. Ebay people offer them for sale, sometimes in great condition, sometimes not. There are other suppliers offer same...Herb's Parts, Hill Top Autoparts, etc.... Some guys like the Pertronix system, which seems to work well, but if this system is considered, you should buy a second module as they are not usually available from local sources, should one be needed. Many guys like the MSD system, many guys like the Mopar electronic system....the choice is yours.....
I use a numbers match Prestolite dual point in my RS23V0A******* car. I can spin engine to 6500 RPM without point bounce or missing, using EITHER Mopar or Blue Streak points. Google Prestolite or search for Mopar Prestolite distributors on ebay....also consider Mopar swap meets, especially Mopar Nat's or Chryslers at Carlisle Pennsylvania. May luck be with you!
