I just removed my instrument cluster to restore and have taped off all of the wiring leads I can find in the dash. Are there any safety reasons that would keep me from driving the car? I don't know much about wiring but thought I would double check before I fire it up and melt all the wiring.

I believe you need the ammeter leads taped together to get power through the system. Otherwise, do not know of anything that would break if not wired up. If I recall, you have the lights, wipers, temp, fuel, and oil as well as the lights in the cluster itself. My thinking, but I would wait to see if someone verifies this, is that those should not be a problem if not in the circuit, but I would make sure they could not short.

I don't see any reason you couldn't drive it. You will need to bolt the ammeter leads together and tape them up good.

Like the guys above, I think the only thing required is joining the Ammeter cables together.

Got it. Thanks

Just to double check. there are 2 heavy gauge wires coming directly off the main harness on the right side of the harness that are right next to each other. One is red and one is black. Both have copper clips with holes to mount to the back of the gauge. Are these the ammeter wires? Also, is there any other grounding necessary besides wiring these together?

Yes that's the two ammeter wires. You will need to use an 8-32 screw and nut to bolt them together and then tape them up good. No grounds needed
