1970 superbee with a 1969 dash

Hey all. Bought a 1970 superbee vin# backs that up [WM23N0A216360], but started researching it and the ignition is in the dash not on the steering column. I have taken it apart and it all seems original. Did dodge put 69 dashes in some 1970 superbees or what. If someone has seen this, or has any info it would be appreciated. Thanks Dallas

I haven't ever seen one did that way unless someone had changed out the dash framing. But you never know,they could have had a few left over parts or something. I know it would have saved me a few dollars in changing my 70 Bee over from an automatic on the columb to a 4 speed.

It would be strange for the factory to do that, because the 1970 models introduced the transmission/steering lock that is operated by the steering column mounted ignition key. Does your instrument panel also have the 1969 flasher button beside the headlight switch? That was gone in 1970 as well, relocated to the column.

I've swapped a dash before and swapped the vin to match it. The frame is different so in order to do it right you swap the frame and then move the vin back to the correct car. The vin always stays with the correct car...

It's probably the matching 70 dash frame with a 69 cluster in it. I'm assuming we're talking rallye dashes here. If they would've swapped in a 70 frame, you have to put in a 70 column with the ignition switch in the column to match. Where's your ignition switch?

So no real mystery there. Probably an early build date with a leftover 69 dash, assuming it's the original unit to the car. Otherwise, someone probably swapped it out. Lots of that happened over the years especially when tach's refuse to tic or tac... swapped a few myself over the years.
