1971 Charger questions

Another clue that the car never had buckets originally is the lack of reinforcement plates welded to the floor around the inner seat track holes.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'd put those plates in there. The dreaded previous owner of my vehicle didn't do that when he put buckets in the place of the bench and he put a nice big tear in the floor pan that I had the joy of fixing. You could always use really big washers instead of the brackets, but the brackets are cheap and easy to weld.

Please, please don't even think about putting buckets in without the reinforcement brackets... years ago, we had a car come into the shop that got hit & the seat ripped out the floor, because somebody prior had just slapped them in just drilling holes in the floor.

I have a 73 that I am putting in a new 1/2 pan and rear pan, I can send you the measurements. But it might not be till tomorrow night or monday.

Thanks so much man. Really appreciate that.

With all the changes needed for a console I would just add a buddy seat and correct bench pistol grip and rock! Nothing like a arm rest behind a 4 speed!

This would be the easiest to get a "correct" look.
Actually the short E-body style shifter is just called the bucket seat shifter cause the console was a seperate option. I like buckets and no console myself. Stupid consoles just raddle and make a bunch noise.

Nothing a little careful assembly and strategically placed felt tape won't solve, mine is solid as a rock and doesn't make a peep. On one of Jay Leno's Garage vids about his Hemi Challenger, he jokes about how cheaply assembled it was, specifically pointing out the console flopping around on its lose screw mounts and rattling away.

Hey Mark,
It's a RR/GTX, original "U" code A/C, auto trans car. It is well optioned but the power windows and TKO-600 5-speed pictured I retrofitted into it during the restoration. You may have seen my thread about the resto over on the roadrunnernest.com before, been there for a while. A few pieces I sourced from you over the years, Thanks.

On another note, can someone post a photo of the door hinge assembly? The spring is wrong on my drivers door, and I need to see the proper set up.

Anyone have a rally dash with a 150 speedo for sale too? Thanks.

Sure I've seen it on the nest. Love the color. Have a 71 SSP in Gunmetal.
You probably know Eirc over on the Nest.

I had a Bee back in the early 90's. The car I just got is actually a Charger 500 that I am making into a Bee clone. It has an R/T hood, but I have found someone to trade for the correct Bee insert. It will have color match bumpers and the R/T style tail lights. Have all the pieces now to do the console mod on the 4 speed. Just waiting for heat in the garage, then I can get on with the mods I want to do this winter. It will be a real head turner come spring. Can hardly wait. Very excited.
