Hi all, I am in the process of restoring a '71 satellite sebring for my 16 yr old son and I figure I'm going to need some help along the way because I have never attempted anything of this sort before and I am not very mechanical whatsoever but I definitely am eager to learn and want to make sure we complete this project together.. The reason why we chose the satellite is because my son picked it out and really liked it so off I go to pick it up. I left work on a Thursday night and I drove 32 hrs basically straight to pick the car up and towed it straight back home thinking he wouldn't like it because it looked different in person then it did in the pictures we seen online. When i pulled up in the driveway he was out smiling from ear to ear and to my surprise he absolutely loved it.... So now it's time to start stripping the car down which is going pretty good... BTW, I forgot to mention that the car is all original and I have all the documentation from the original owner including the build sheet, operators manual and the original bill of sale.. Although there is no interest to build it to make money off of it it's still nice to have everything original it just makes it more complete I think. Anyway, I am looking forward to this project and will upload pictures as soon as I figure out how to do so...

Welcome aboard, Your are right about starting with a complete car! I've been tracking down missing parts for a couple of years. post some pictures when you get a chance.

congrats! Your story sounds like the same thing that my son and I are finishing up..although ours isn't a restore..more like a refresh. Have fun and post some pics

Sounds like you all picked a good car. I love the 71/2 Plymouths and have owed quite of few of them. Have several now. Alot of good info on this site so ask away and be sure to post picks.

it looks like a good start,
as long as the rest of the car is solid..

I don't think it's in to bad of shape overall but again I'm a newbie... From what i can see, the driver and passenger floor pans are both rusted and need to be replaced, there is some rust at the front base sections of both rear wheel hubs, minor rust along the edge of the inner trunk lid, and lower passenger door section. The plan is to strip the car down and have it CO2 blasted to make sure all rust locations are visible so we can concentrate on the required repairs. I will not be doing them though, the car will be shipped out to a body shop for this portion of the project because I want to make sure it's done professionally.

Just got to make sure I find the right shop that does quality work in my area...

These are just a few pics taken with my iPhone. I will upload the pictures that i have taken with my camera when I get back home and are much better quality. I am currently out of town working for the next 10 days so there isn't anything being done to the car until I return..

With the car being as solid as it is,you won't be spending that much money on parts any more than you need to. It will also keep you and your son from being overwhelmed with your project.

Looks like those floors might only have surface rust, more severe on the PS than the DS. I'd tap 'em all over with a hammer from inside and underside and if they don't collapse like paper, you're set - just sand and treat with POR or Rust Bullet and smile about the money you saved on not buying new floor sections. :)

great find! are you keeping it a SSP, or doing a road runner/GTX? Not a thing wrong with keeping it a Sattelite

The floor panels on both the DS and PS are definitely in need of replacement. I drove the hammer through the PS just by tapping the floor and the DS was replaced with sheet metal and rivets. Looks terrible so I have to cut out these 2 sections for sure... Just not quite sure if I should do the full 1 piece replacement or 2 individual.

Plan is to keep it all original as possible so we won't be doing a roadrunner clone.

i would do the one piece floor in myself
it is about the same work as putting 2 patches in and
in the end you will have better looking results..

trying to post pics of my prodject, but still can't figure it out. I go to manage my gallary and submit pics, but then it tells me their is no website

nothing wrong with clones, it's just with all that have been done, the original cars are getting pretty rare. It's nice to see Sattellites and Belveders.

image.jpg Anybody have any idea where I can order a new set of these tail lights. I have searched all over and can't find them anywhere.... Thanks in advance!!

Awesome.... Thank you very much!! :headbang:

Just wondering, would you happen to know if this is a standard tail light on the 71 satellite, every other car I looked at online had totally different configurations..

You have 72 tail lights......You might consider buying a 71 rear bumper and tail light housings to put it back to 71 lights.

Here are the "correct" 71 lenses...
