1972 Road Runner Grille

i was only going by the poster saying it was a 72 grill.
its either a 71 or 2 satellite grille
the 71 rr grill has black centers, this grill is all silver so it came from a satellite.

The grilles are distinctly different on a 71 RR & a 72 RR, not even close. Look at the pic someone posted of the correct 72 grille.

Im no expert on 71 up b bodys as we dont ever deal with those era parts unless they are e bodys. I didnt know that runner grills were different than satellite ones sorry. This grill was in a box lot of parts that we bought in June so we didnt ever try to sell this before.

That's not a '72 Road Runner grille.

Example;

How can you tell its a 72? Is there a difference.

Do you see the difference or not, from the picture to what the "seller" posted?

Here are some pics of this grill and bezels. 2 very small areas of damage would never be seen once mounted . See Pictures.View attachment 352044 View attachment 352045 View attachment 352046 View attachment 352047 View attachment 352048 View attachment 352049

The question was how do you know its a 72. The poster said it was a 72 Satellite grill. I have 71 Satellite grills (2) and they did look the same as the 72(sat) pictured. Question answered by flypaper and I thanked him.

Go through the whole forum topic on this and read all of the responses.

Not a '72 RR grille.
Most everyone on here knows this.
It's a 72 satellite grill
My point; It could also be a 71 Satellite grill

I didn't think there was a difference (between 71 and 72 Satellite), but had to ask and I have read the entire thread. geez
So the burning question is; grill or grille?

In answer to my own question, apparently grille is the correct term, I stand corrected.

Would there be enough of a market to reproduce these grilles, and if so would anyone care if it was in fiberglass ? I've built alot of molds for parts I couldn't get.

Wouldn't bother me if it was fiberglass or not. If you need it and not produced, what do ya do?

I understand what you're saying. I wasn't as clear maybe. My main thing is that the grill portion. Yes, if you have a Sat, GTX, RR grill, they can be used on each other. Only difference was the RR had the center portion of the headlights and center grill was black (?) but can't remember if the black was painted on or the plastic was black to begin with. If anyone knows for sure, IDK. I think someone had stated that already (color) for the RR.

The first picture I took of my 71 Satellite (bought new). Grill looks darker than I remember, I painted it black years later.

I just seen 2 72 roadrunner grills sell for about $4000 and not in the best shape fwiw

This is a genuine 1972 Plymouth Road Runner grille. It was UNIQUE to 1972 and no other year had it. My Road Runner was purchased new by me in 1972 and I am the one and ONLY owner. Drove it until 1989, parked it, then started restoration in 2003, complete in 2006.

I have literally hundreds of pictures of it being removed, and installed. All the bolts, nuts, clips, screws, and other fasteners are all original and all there.

If anybody is interested I can post the link to a Photobucket site page with them. Comes in handy if you've never had to install one from scratch. Also have annotated images from the original FSM showing how all the bits & pieces fit together.

I'd be interested, 72Rdrnner to have a link to whatever you want to give. My cart is a 71 but a link of yours will come in handy to put the grill together and whatever else I may need. I'm trying to source the hardware for the grill for instance. I have all of the bracketry for it. It has been apart tooo long and trying to find my pictures...well, you know (more organized now..lol). NICE car BTW

I appreciate the offer and thanks!
