Does anybody know if manual disc brakes were an option in 72? My satellite has terrible brakes, no response until the end of travel and then it finally brakes if you stand on it. I replaced wheel cylinders, rotors, soft hoses (one side still old hose, would not come off), master cylinder, drum rebuild kit, etc. They still suck. I bled them several times, and a mechanic did the master cylinder and bled them for me while in for leaf springs.

I am thinking maybe the car was originally power brakes and the booster was removed. Would this cause the behavior I'm seeing? The rod is a different for power and manual, right? Was manual brakes with front disc even an option on the 72 Satellite (Sebring)?

Thanks if you can help. I guess I want to get a booster but don't know what else is required. Any ideas what to check or replace?

I'm not sure if nobody knows, or if this question is just too stupid... Any ideas on what may be the issue is appreciated, thanks.

I have a basket case 71 SSP and it has manual disc brakes. Not sure if those were factory or not. No build sheet or fender tag when I bought it.

Thanks, that post was actually a big help! I didn't think of looking at the fender tag. I decoded the fender tag and it turns out it did have power brakes. Power brakes and disc brakes were listed as separate options, although I'm still not positive they were available independently. Anyways, here's what I got from the fender tag.

I have a hunch the PO just removed the booster and used the same rod (I can't remember the real name of the part, but it's the plunger rod through the firewall into the MC from the brake pedal assembly).

Thanks!:icon_kidra:

Maybe it was the pedal linkage that is different? I don't really need to convert to power brakes at this point, I have lots more stuff to do before that. So if I can just get the manual brakes working right that would be great.

Auto parts stores list the same master cylinder as being used for power and manual brakes.

Does anyone know what other parts should be changed to convert a power brake setup to manual?
