1973 B5 blue w/red stripes Road Runner GTX sunroof car with 59k mile original paint original survivor

I had a 73 Road Runner for 42 years that was purchased in 1979, so it was original except someone had put a 2 barrel carb on it to attempt to get better gas mileage during the gas crisis (wrong move, but that's what they did).
Anyway, my 73 had the lap belts pulled out, wrapped around themselves and then allowed to retract back into the seat belt holder. Once I unwrapped them, I found out why. There is a red seat belt warning sign on the dash along with a buzzer. It stays on and will not stop until the belt is pulled out (and presumably latched). If I recall properly, there was also a passenger seat sensor that would make it do the same thing.
In my case, the buzzer was found and discarded really fast, but I left the light functioning.

My 73 has a seat belt pressure switch under the passenger front seat, it was already unplugged when I pulled the seat to get the broadcast sheet. My guess is, like your saying is that’s it’s annoying and easily defeated. Ill
Be curious when I do put the seat back in though as to if it functions as designed.

So guys wanted to see the “survivor” road runner since pics are so easy these days, and the OP gets all surly and bent out of shape? Are all the GM guys this weird? They do use that survivor term fast and loose and in ways mopar guys don’t. Especially with corvettes.

Weird GM guy here, actually I’m a collector and enthusiast for all unique and special cars. I have a very eclectic collection of cars and my driving passion is for survivor cars. I promise you I know what this means. My desire was to show the car as…. As found and as preserved but I’ll go ahead and show a few shots since it seems to be a sticking point with many. Here are a couple pictures of it as found and a couple of in progress shots. I was cut off at 10

I’ll go ahead and explain to you what survivor means. We’re talking a like new, untouched car, with 90% or so original paint that is nice. That car survived nuclear winter, I’ll give you that. That’s the same yard car 95% of the people on here have owned at some point.

We like them, but it takes away from the car to have a puffed up tag like that placed on it. GM guys might roll that way, but I’m saying what the eye rolls mean in Moparland.

We can just disagree if you don’t see what this car is and what it will be when done. The reason I didn’t post pictures is exactly for the comment you just made. This car has virtually every component it left the factory with(they all survived till now). It has never been wrecked(it has all original metal it left the factory with). It has never had a paint job other than very sloppy primer on it( the paint survived and hopefully the majority of the primer will come off). It has had zero rust repair. The entire original and it has survived till today and will clean up exceptionally. If that isn’t a survivor in your eyes….. well I just say, read the 1st sentence of my reply again. I’ll end with this…. I’m a buyer for just about any car that is found in condition so please PM what’s out there, especially desirable ones

Probably better to think before speaking.... Ever heard of MCACN? might want to check them out and look at their survivor class and the cars in it.... just sayin!!

Barn finds aren’t survivors. Big difference.

Notice the difference in your as found unrestored car and what a survivor Mopar really is. I was wrong, the threshold is 85% original paint. Your paint is simply…gone.

Too bad the pics were not just posted to begin with instead of keeping the "Mystique". There was no point for that. Barn find pictures are as interesting as any. Thread has created some confusion as to what some consider what. Good luck with your car. It has a long way to go from here.

That Florida moisture sure got to it. Coat of surface rust on everything is deceiving in pictures. Different that road salt caused rust.

The car looks fairly un-abused, but just lousy storage. Seems like it just wasn't stored in an enclosed garage.

We definitely don’t have the dry climate you do. Any muscle car that SURVIVED its whole life with its original exhaust wasn’t abused for sure

Obviously, nothing could survive in a barn... Watched your video and I would appreciate every one of those cars as they should be. I don't think I would consider his opinion nor yours the goto for what a survivor class car is though. You evidently have never heard of MACAN, it is the premiere car show for this hobby and yes more so than Carlisle. This is an article from a small magazine you might not of heard of either called Hotrod Magazine in conjunction with a barely known auction house called Mecum speaking about Survivor class cars. If after you get done "educating" me on a hobby I would be more than willing to compare credentials with you on, and you still find the need to prove your point, I suggest you start with them because they evidently are much more uniformed than me. The article does have pictures also so should be easy to follow. I see this thread has turned into a waste of time as it is mainly being used by others to tell me how I should or should not present my car which is fine. It's unfortunate because this car is 1 of probably 5 or 6 known to exist with roughly 30 made and very possibly the only one in this color combination. It has 59k miles and is as true to as produced as almost any 50 plus year old big block muscle car you're going to find and it's a B Body on a B Body forum. I guess the auto corrected spelling of the word do as opposed to due is much more interesting. Feel free to let me know

Regardless of how it is currently categorized, I -- for one -- am very interested in seeing what you do with it. I'm liking everything I see here, but I have a question. I don't see an outside mirror on the passenger door. Has it been removed or was the car not optioned with one? I'm not at all well versed on the '73 & '74 B bodies.

Good observation, it is equipped with dual sport mirrors. When I bought it, that was one of the items that was taken off of the car along with the grill, headlight bezels, antenna etc. All of those original parts came with the car and have been re-installed with the exception of the antenna. I just haven't gotten to it yet as I'm debating on how I will deal with the paint preservation, antennas are no fun to work around and since it was off I figured it could wait till I made a final decision.

Yes, I came to a car forum to learn specific knowledge about B bodies that I didn't have. It was suggested to me in one of my other threads about me trying to learn answers I didn't know to start a build thread. That was not my intention in coming here but I thought others would have an interest in a very rare B Body I have. Unfortunately, a couple of supposedly grown adults, you included are more interested in acting like high school girls when a new girl comes to their school and she isn't in their "click" I'm a car guy and not a little girl, my feeling don't get hurt if something isn't exactly what I want it to be. If I don't like something or someone, I don't feel the need to act like a spoiled 15 years girl, I just go on with my day. I know several die hard MOPAR guys and I'm not sure what the "Mopar layout" is but I came here to interact about B Bodies with car guys that have knowledge and appreciation of them, not have petty conversations about hot water heaters in my house or be told what a survivor is by someone who doesn't have a clue what one is. Like it or not, I really don't care and if no one wants to interact with me about cars and specifically B Bodies I'm in the wrong place. Don't get me wrong or twist what I'm saying either, I'm grateful to have found numerous answers to questions I didn't know the answer and Thankful the administrators have put forth a forum for these answers to be easily found. Maybe you should try to provide something knowledgeable or insightful with your time here, it might improve this thread. If this thread is a waste of your time, I would think you would not be here, pretty simple solution. enough crap already... cant this just be about the cars as in the actual car.
