Replacement of the two sensors on the rear of a Mopar 440 block (1976).

Replacement parts from Standard Motor Parts (SMP) do not fit.

The oil pressure sending unit SMP PS-59 is bigger and longer than the original. It will not line up with the hole. Do Not Buy. Best advice I was given was to search out old parts stores and see if they have an original replacement on the shelf (good luck with that). Or you can grind away at the block to align the part to the hole.

The oil pressure warning light SMP PS-11 does not fit the threads in the block. This is part that goes in the hole on the right. To remove, a special tool is needed. Its the socket looking thing in the pictures. I added two transitions to fit this part into the block and could give a delay to the warning light. The last picture shows how far this sender on the right sticks out of the block. On the left a direct read oil pressure unit replaced the bell housing oil pressure sending unit. That gage works via a hose that connects to the gage (not electric).

PS16 is for the light. Get the OEM part numbers and cross reference. Some blocks are slightly different and the larger bell for the gauge may not fit.

Im not really seeing any truth to this...... there wont be any kind of delay issue.

Get rid of that nylon line. Use either copper of the same size, can use the same fittings supplied with the nylon, or use -3 braided stainless with appropriate fittings. Nylon breaks very quickly giving you your own version of the Exxon Valdez.

Hey Lefty71 the help tech at SMP thought that with mounting add-ons, a delay could be possible. No direct evidence tho. Thanks for the comment. But now with the PS-16 part, that I didn't know about until pnora's reply I won't have those add-ons.
Great idea to remove nylon line, thanks for that input ckessel. Copper will be much better! Yup I pictured an oil spill also.
