1of1 69 RR resto

I am going to post progress of my buddies 69 RR since he has no time and this is with his blessing of course. I am helping him do a full rotisserie resto on this car since he has no experience at all, I mean absolutely none. He bought the car out of Texas about 3 years ago and when he got it home here in BC he realized that he had been taken somewhat and the car was a lot rougher than he was told. The car is 69 383, 4 spd, TX9, axle package, post car and according to Galen Goviae it is a 1 of 1 car. The 69 RR 4spd is my buddies dream car so when this car came available he bought it. Now.... my buddy bought this car with the intent of restoring it but soon realized that he got himself in way over his head. He had his garage/shop built, 18x20, and put the car in and over two years all he managed to do was pull the glass out, the dash and all the wiring. He was getting ready to get rid of the car when I offered to help him as much as possible and being a very church going fella he truly believed that the man upstairs sent me to his rescue and if that's what he believes then that's ok with me. So the first day on the project we pulled the hood, doors, trunk lid, fenders, bumpers, motor, tranny, drive shaft, rear end, leaf springs, K-member and complete front suspension and was now ready to put on the rotisserie. The next visit I did not have a lot of time but we got the car on the rotisserie.

then we started taking the trunk pan and floor pans out which were repops and were absolutely butchered in and installed over rusted frame rails with the interior supports rotted away. The pans were done with lap joints with absolutely piss poor welding including the trunk pans, so out they come.

We did some required bracing before we put the car on the rotisserie. Once the pans were out I brought my blaster over and the lumber for the tent and the poly I had from when I did my car. We set everything up and I showed him how to do the blasting and to do the maintenance on the machine. I also supplied him with a 55 gal drum of aluminum oxide that has only been used once. Yesterday and today we have worked on the new floor pans. We had to repair all the damage the last idiot did. Now we are doing this in the tent because John still has to blast the inside of the rear frame rails and the engine bay. John has been blasting for the last few months and will be another month or more but we need to get the interior structure repaired and primed up, no flash rusting yet so we are ok there. The drivers side is ready to be welded in but I will do that when the passenger side is ready which will be with a couple more hrs work. Now John has never welded so I am showing him the way and I also sold him one of my welders for a deal which was practically brand new. I had to fabricate the internal structure pieces for the frame rails and part of the top pass side rail.

The pans going in. I still have to cut the tunnel to create the butt joint to the pan on both sides. The pass side pan I gave to John because I ended up doing a tube chassis on my car so we can put to good use on his car.

Mighty swell of ya Robert..Maybe when your buddy tucks enough experience under his belt, he'll come over and help you with your Dodge.

What part of Texas did that car come from? That car doesn't look a whole lot better than the northern rust bucket I started with.

the car came from an outfit called the Texas Toy Box and they were the ones who did the shitty at-troches job on the car. John just got the new full 1/4s and the roof skin and he has already bought a pile of other parts that will be replacing the old. We are also looking for an nos hood.

I've heard of those clowns Robert (Texas Toy Box). Seen pissed off buyers on here and the Coronet Registery. Those guys are a disgrace to the hobby. Glad to see you and your buddy bringing her back from their sideshow slop job.

Glad to see you're helping your friend out, Robert. I'm sure he appreciates it much. Heck, he can probably help you with any labor you may need as well in return. Just glad to see another car is saved. You guys are doing a great job, keep it up and keep us posted.

At first, I thought this was another Propwash posting, that he bought another car til I saw the name on the posting..lol. Did your friend call Texas Toy Box to complain about the car he bought? I bet after what he paid for and what you both are doing to the car, he might be a little P.O

On a side note to "Texas Toy Box". Arent they in coloboration with another company in Texas? I think they buy and sell cars to eachother and then to the public. I'd really like to hear the opinions of their "another satisfied customer" list.

LOL...My god no. The ball is in Robert's court on this one Tor-Red. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy someone else's craftsmanship for a while.

Well we got some more work done today and making forward progress. While John was cleaning up I started to remove the rear floor pans and then John had to go for a couple of hrs to drop his wife and her sister off for a boat cruise so I kept working on the pans. We got the front and rear pans in and everything screwed into place. Now we just have a little more prep work and then we can weld everything into place. Man seven hrs goes by too quick.
