thinking of going to a 2.77 first gear after using a 2.45 for years. is there any advantage? what are the pros and cons of a 2.77 first gear? anyone out there using this set up? i am using 4:88's in the rear with 13x33"s on the rear. maybe this will help. :pottytrain5:

Need to know more about the car it's for.......weight of the car being one important stat and stall another. Is your car slow off the line? The more info, the better.

Weight is 3425 with me in it. And i use an turbo action 069j convertor. My 60 ft. Is in the high 1.4's and low 1.5's. 440, 30 over with .620 roller and ported 906 heads. Will be going to a 512 with indy 440-1 max intake later. That's why i'm asking about a 2.77 first gear setup.

i use a 2.77 low gear set. i wouldnt use it with a 4.88 gear though. having a 4.88 is like having a low gear set. imo
i tried it with 4.56's and it was a little rough on the suspension. couldnt shift it quick enough.

i use a dedenbear co2 shifter on my turbo action. i just set the rpm shift point and let it rip. so maybe i will go with the 2.77 first gear with 4:88 in the rear because i don't have to worry about the first to second shift coming on to quick for me to react to the shift light. can't wait to get this carbeque back togther and back on the strip. it's all apart and weighting on some body parts.

My thoughts are it will be in second a lot quicker & probably even longer{may be a good thing} do you have enough motor going thru the lights I think the RPM's will be a little more due to the 30% lower 1st gear, getting the engine into a higher RPM quicker, if your combo can handle it it may be good for some ET improvements, the 1st 60-330ft is were a lot of your ET will be made up, you could always go to a higher gear ratio for top end RPM's if needed... Just some thoughts... Happy Moparing & good luck at the track...

I would stay with the 2.45 if u are going to a bigger motor like the 512. The xtra torque should give u 60 ft times in the 1.30s with a loose converter and my 2.45 in my car ran good with 4.56 gears but i shifted to second while the front end was still in the air. I went to a glide with a 1.80 straight cut gear and ran quicker cause i stayed in the power band longer. My motor is a 528 indy head on alcohol that runs in the high 8s in the quarter with 1.21 60 ft times. I broke the torqueflite several times, it was a high dollar unit.
