I wanted to touch up paint some areas on the block, which I haven't done yet. I painted the new throttle cable brackets and spring returns.

It turns out the paint I bought is more orange then the engine. The engine has a little more
slight tint of Red. Was there more then one shade or orange engine paint?

This is what I just bought which doesn't match the engine. Any ideas?

Gotta remember, there's 2 different colors of hemi orange, there's race hemi orange, and street hemi orange..

duplicolor sells hemi orange (#1652) which is a lighter shade than chrysler orange (#1622)

race hemi orange is totally different than street hemi orange, st hemi orange has more red in it like your motor. race hemi orange was used on max wedges and 64-65 race hemi's.

It says right on the eBay ad that this paint is for 62-643 Max Wedge and 64-65 race hemis. Later engines were darker orange, which the same seller has on his site.

per the restoration page on the engines as listed in the Mopar Engines, all 62-71 B/RB engines were turquoise with the exception of 383/440 and they were Street Hemi Orange...but the 413 was not specifically addressed but we all know them as orange in color. so I got my 413 Ram Charger Guide in hopes of restoration data..and came up short..sorry...was hoping it would be of help..

seeing as how there are two oranges and you have the wrong one odds are it will be the other...but...do you really know the history of the engine and can assure yourself that it was done correct last refresh? this has been a lot of talk for no real advice but did want you know the official references used in looking this up..

I would suggest a call to the 413 guru Darrell Davis ...I am not sure if I am allowed to post phone numbers here so am not...you should be able to find him on the internet...

I bought two cans of Duplicolor Hemi orange. Both the same number. I can see that there is a difference in the color between the two cans. I think other things can affect the color- finish. ie: temperature, distance from painted object, thickness of the coats, other things. ................................MO

I just bought the wrong color. No big deal. I didn't realize there were 2 different colors. Does anyone want the Race hemi orange? Free? I will mail it to you.

Got a mail box and some painters tape... it's nice of you to offer post in the fir sale section
