Hey guys. So I just found someone on another forum that is parting out a 2010 Dodge Challenger. I have this crazy plan of fitting a new Challenger dash into my Coronet.

I was wondering what you would think to be a reasonable price for a complete dash assembly and console? What other parts should I be sure to grab? I'm thinking I should probably grab the wiring and HVAC system with it as well so I can run the A/C. If the console is auto, can I just swap out the shifter section to a manual part? Or would I need to grab a manual console? If it has the security key module I might grab that too.

I'm not sure how much it would cost to ship all that to Canada, but they are in Florida. I'm not sure when else I will have the opportunity to grab a complete dash from a newer Challenger so I'd like to act on this pretty soon. I'm gonna PM them tonight.
 
I'm hesitant to grab the HEMI out of this one since it was in a front end collision.

Just got a reply back and they are asking $100 for the entire dash assembly! The only catch is the passenger airbag was deployed and the panel will need to be replaced. Still in all, I'd rather spend $100 to find out this dash just isn't gonna work for me after all than spending a ton of money on a perfect condition one. If it does end up working I have the frame and everything and would just need to replace the top panel. I'm sure I can find a deal on that somewhere.

You don't even need the top panel. Turn it into a package tray or glue it shut. Same with the steering wheel, close it up. Your car didn't originally have airbags, and it's pretty unlikely that you're going to install the bumper sensors that you'd need to make them operational.

The $100 for the dash is a steal. Grab it!

As for the front end collision, even if a couple of pulleys are bent, it's not the end of the world. A broken block, well that's different.

No I definitely don't want airbags haha. I just wasn't sure I could actually glue that piece down where it pops out. Thought it totally mangles the instrument panel on the passenger side.

Another thing, I really like the idea of utilizing the factory gauges from the Challenger, and am wondering what I would need to make this happen. Is there a way I can program the odometer to match mine? I'm assuming if I have the dash and all the wiring with it I could make use of the signal indicator lights and warning lights in conjunction with the factory computer\sensors?

Also, I just checked and the 6.1 HEMI from the car he's parting out only has 37,000 miles on it. (54, 596 KM) I''m going to verify if it's running\was running and see how how much he would sell it for. I know he was asking $5000 for the engine and transmission together. (It's an automatic though).

I've done a ton of research now and know what it would take to get the 5.7 into my car and running with all the accessories, and what fits on the factory k-frame. What would be different about using the 6.1? Can I use the same TTI mounts? I imagine the accessories on the 6.1 are all down low so this may cause clearance issues. What would be the ideal computer to use?

Still wondering about the steering column and gauge cluster. What work would have to be done to make the column fit?
 
Got a final quote:

Complete dash w/ all panels and frame $150
Center console w/ all brackets needed for mounting $150
Dash\Console wiring $100
Climate controls that come with the dash w/ wiring and vents $50
All other dash controls (headlight controls, etc.. ) and their associated wiring $50 (the dash harness is one large harness)
Instrument cluster and wiring $200

Total: $700

Seems like a pretty good deal to me considering just a new top panel is going for $1000 at most wreckers and online parts stores.

As long as you're aware that none of the modern instruments are remotely compatible with your car. They're all digital, nothing analogue or mechanical. You might find a lot more technical help with modern systems such as you're looking at by visiting challengertalk.com and asking around. Even something like changing the stereo in these new vehicles takes more planning.

Where do the gauges get their information from? I figured if I was using the HEMI with it's computer and all the sensors in the engine, that I could use the new cluster.
