2012 Ram MDS delete,,,OR not delete pros versus cons either way

Im at a point my truck has a failing lifter + cam lobe

Im trying to decide if I delete the MDS Or put it back 100% stock with MDS intact

Money wise it looks like its going to be about the same so costs are irrelevant

Im looking at one of these kits , it comes with a tuner to permanently turn off the MDS system , raise base idle speed etc etc etc

Anyone ever used either one of these kits . or have options / opinions which way to go

Did you check with the Truck Forum in the Ram section? Somebody there may be able to help you. I have an 05 Ram and none of that BS.

The engines without MDS are also seeing these failures so, in my opinion, there is probably no benefit to deleting the MDS feature.
Can we get more details on this one?
Are you original owner?
How many miles on it?
What were the oil change intervals?
Was it mainly run with conventional oil or synthetic oil?
 
I have 2012 Ram and ate the cam in my 5.7 at a 125K. I opted for a reman. engine with the MDS delete w/the tuner and stainless headers to eliminate the exhaust stud breakage issue. 30K later and I have no regrets, my truck actually runs better, tows better and gets a little better mileage now.

I bought it used at 92k miles about 4 years ago, It Now has about 155k on it

Regular oil changes since owned . I try to stay in the 3-4000 miles range between changes. Ive run synthetic , semi synthetic to conventional on a few occasions

The 2 MDS delete kits im looking at . Both come with the scat pack / hellcat non mds lifters which have a noticeably larger roller and Im told is a huge bonus with these upgrades.
Also comes with a tuner to turn off the MDS system completely . As well as raise base idle 100 rpm when doing this upgrade

Any more info you can share on this

My oil pan is super clean with very very little signs of metallic in the oil. So I feel confident the bottom end is ok

Im upgrading to a HV oil pump while im in there

I did regular oil changes with synthetic oil but it ate multiple cams lobes and there was alot of grit in my engine. Granted, many of my miles were pulling a trailer. With what all need replaced, it was only about $2,300 more for the reman long block vs going through my topend. That included the headers, tuner and 100K warranty on fresh engine vs a new topend on a 125K engine.

I went with BBK headers, I had used them on my previous Ram. Nice quality, heavy flanges and tubes, good fit and had no issues with them.

That forum does move slow. You would have better luck at RamForumZ.com

I have 407,000 on this truck, the picture was taken in January this year....

At around 59,000 miles, one or two of the MDS lifters crapped out, requiring replacement. Since then, the truck has been a jewel. I suggest to keep it stock.

Are you getting a misfire, or misfire codes? Are you just hearing noise?
You said the oil pan is pretty clean; is the engine out or was it just the oil pan removed so far?
 
I hope It is ok to ask here, is there a ram truck Forum here somewhere affliliated wth FBBO?

No misfire codes
Heard squeeking chirping noise . Sounded like cracked flexplate.

Intermittent at first

Now all the time. And I was just starting to feel a slight miss pulling away from a light.
So parked it a few weeks ago

I have oil pan off.
As well as both heads now.
Found loose roller on one lifter
Don't have cam out yet
