.22 caps....anyone use them?

.22 CB shorts are not very loud in my rifle but in my pistol, that's another story but I expected that. Any time the 'pipe' is long, the sound is less. Same way with an exhaust system. Mild curves do not slow down the flow but will quiet down a straight pipe system a bit. However, it looks ugly lol

C.I.L. ammo was one of those ubiquitous things that we never appreciated when it was common and now that it is gone we realize what a great thing it was.
I still have a brick. Didn’t like Whiz Bangs as much. No I am not selling them at this time. Minor problem, kids and grandkids don't hunt. Have a great niece and nephew that hunt.

This thread isn't about looking to buy from another member but about where to find online sales. Looks like the .22 caps just ain't out there anymore so, I'll use the CB's in my rifle and not worry about using CB's in my auto pistol....

Maybe you need a distraction to cover the noise. Try calling in air support on the neighbor. (VBG)

Don't need to make any calls....at least not most times. Just need to wait until some new jet jockey has to get in his time. They usually run the T38's pretty hard....and those dang things ain't exactly quiet lol

If you are looking for parlour caps also known as BB Caps or 6mm flobert. I buy mine from Midwest guns as they seem to have them most often. Umarex is the manufacturer.

in my experience, this is not a rifle friendly round unless it is very short barreled. I've had challenges with them in a savage bolt, a rolling block Ithaca and an old marlin bolt. I think the consistency of the primers is to blame but I don't like needing to check the barrel each time to make sure it cleared. I guess if each of your shots makes a new hole that wouldn't be an issue. :) I use them in .22 revolvers all the time and in a little break open Uberti pepper box I inherited.

I also use .22 short CB which are just a bit hotter than the 22 BB.

but if you want crazy quiet and the ability to reach out a little farther with a better punch, get a threaded barrel and waste some money on a .22 suppresor. .22LR low velocity rounds thru a can are as much fun as driving my charger around.

I will get a picture of my suppressed Ruger tomorrow. Mark 4 22/45 fun to shoot, now I want a suppressed rifle for a bit more distance.

This is my suppressed Ruger

What ammo are you shooting?
CCI sub sonic then CCI Suppressor then CCI Quiet Semi Auto. But I get some FTC and FTE with the quiet semi auto. I've found that standard CCI can be used without hearing protection but there is a crack. Like an old cap gun.

maybe try,
you will need to go to the sites & look it up

www.midwayusa.com

or

www.basspro.com
www.cabelas.com

or

www.palmettostatearmory.com

or

www.luckygunner.com

or

www.sportsman.com (Sportsman's Warehouse)

or

www.bulkammo.com

maybe start loading your own
Hornady (or Frankford Arsenal) get the books & has all you need,
but it will cost 100+ times more to get the reloading equipment
but get the brass & primer & bullets,
do your own, for as long as you like

I haven't shot a .22 short or LR in years/decades now
have an old trusty Ruger 10/22 I got when I was 10
or my Colt Bushmaster

I never shot caps, rarely any subsonic stuff either,
seemed like why (?) bother
(I have a .177 pellet 900ft to 1200+ per/sec. air riffle for that stuff, deadly inside 30-40 yards)
the shorts are so dang quiet anyway

I know you want them quite not much penetration etc. :blah:

unless you're doing something illegal, you shouldn't be doing :poke:
want to be that much more quiet/stealth
or
you're shooting within 300 ft of a neighboring house
(just don't do it, not worth a federal gun charge)
or
discharging a firearm in city limits etc.
(don't do it)
or
something you really shouldn't do, unless defending yourself

Fired off a proving caps or snap caps yeah, sort of like a blank,
no projectile leaves the barrel, so you can sort of "dry fire at will"
just to make sure the rounds load & fire, after doing work on them
or practice pulling the trigger etc.
I know that's not what you're looking for, but it's great practice...

I have been shooting standard velocity CCI mainly because I have 1000's of them. I bought 10,000 rounds of them from a former customer of mine for .05 cents a round as long as I didn't resell them. He knows I shoot lots of rimfire. I asked him about subsonic he told me the demand is so high he can't get a good enough price on it
