2nd gear acting up but only after a few minutes of driving

The band seting procedure just allow running clearance. If you lift on the band apply lever you can measure the distance between the apply pin of the servo and the lever. Should be about 5/16".

72 inch pounds...or, FOOT pounds??

Check in the book. Yeah, torque the adjusters, inch pounds, then 'back off' so many turns.
All that torque setting does, is set the clamping pressure on the bands, when their applied.

Most definitely inch pounds. Gonna go with something that has more beefier anchor points https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tci-125600 not a cast band but it looks like it could do the job. I only have a lightly modded LA360.
