Hello,

When I get to TDC #1, the Rotor is at the Firewall and the marks on spockets are not lining up at 6 & 12 but at 12 & 12. Finger gets blown off of plug hole. When the Rotor is at TDC #6, the Marks are at 6 & 12 like there suppose to be.
Is this still okay? Really don't want to mess anything up and Yes it was in time before teardown.

I've seen that before on a couple of engines too. just pull the distributor and reset rotor to no 1 instead of 6 then good to go.

K, so I need to align the marks at 6 & 12 then pull the dizzy and face it at number 1 tdc? Won't that cause it to be 180 out?

Sorry for ignorance, I haven't done the tdc thing in long while. Butcan I put long screwdriver down the #1 hole and watch it go in/out to tell when it's at tdc compression? I really don't want to take the valve cover off. I've got the balancer and timing cover off and just little confused.

Set it up just like you said in the first post then move the distributor. Timing marks will be 12 and 12 as you stated. You also mentioned that you had compression from #1 spark plug hole but rotor points to #6. That means that it's 180 out now, so move distributor rotor to line up with #1. Done.

Can I rotate the rotor when everything is back together or do I have to do now?

If didn't do it now and when I fire the motor, if it doesn't run then I'm 180 out correct?

No, the screwdriver will be at TDC twice. Once on the compression stroke and again on the exhaust stroke. Using that method, you can't tell which is which. You could do that after the finger on the plug hole feels compression. Then you know you're on the proper stroke. You could also watch the timing mark. After you feel compression, when the timing mark is on the zero degree mark, you are at TDC.
