Final trip update:
Drove farther than I had estimated, 4,336 miles round trip. Last tank of gas saw some mountain driving but also included some long straightaways where the speed limit was 110 kilometers per hour (almost 70 MPH). The last tank of gas netted me 17.66 MPG. I did calculate one other short stretch of California Highway (129 miles between Carpenteria and Lake Forest, California) at 20.5 MPG. Don't know for sure if that was the actual gas mileage or included a math error or the tank was not filled up completely.
