318 W block questions

The new LA style small block wont bolt to the stock torque flight. Trust me. Did the same thing with my Satellite. The 66 and earlier 727 have a different bolt pattern than the newer one. Its close, and it looks the same but its not. I just put in a 727 from TCI, only ran about 750 and considering my stock tranny was pushing 170 thousand miles anyway :)

Talk to me here. A friend has a 63 dart with a 78 360 engine we bolted it to a 62 torqueflight using the stock 62 converter with the adapter flex plate from summit to mate the converter to the cast crank. I always thought the bolt pattern was the same on the poly, the LA and the magnum engines I just picked up a 98 magnum engine just tossing around the idea of putting it in my 66 coronet Now??

I dunno, maybe the tranny was a newer unit. I know from personal expierence that the bolt holes AND the alignment pins from my 66 727 would NOT line up with the holes on the block on '75 360. Either way, do your really want to bolt a nicer, newer, fuel injected 360 to an old, worn out tranny that probably has a 1800 RPM stall converter? Basically, even if it does bolt up do you really want to risk grenading the the thing the first time you WOT it on the highway? A decent streeet tranny can be had for a very reasonable cost, its actually cheaper than rebuilding one when you throw in the labor for it. I dunno what your budget is but if your gonna put in a new motor than why not back it with a new tranny.
