Ok guys i have a 360 stroker 408. It is a new motor and when i change the oil i noticed very little oil in the filter. I undersand there is a plug under the main cap which directs the flow. How can i test or know if that plug is in there for sure. I just want dont o mess up anything obviuosly. Also can i remove the pan without pulling the motor. Any advice will be great this is really starting to worry me.

Thanks,
Jason

Take out the oil sender or plug that you have in there by the distributor. Pass a rigid wire down the hole, if it is 8-8.5" to top of block it's there, if it is 10" then it is not. If you continue to push the wire down you'll make the turn through the main cap and into the pump and come up with 12-13".

I have a 45 degree fitting and a mechanical gauge I screw in there when I prime, which will be a thing to try too.

What's your oil pressure or would that tell ya anything? What I'm asking is if there's not much flow through the filter, wouldn't the PSI be way down?

I can try that with the plug and wire. Oil preasure is good about 35 at idle and up to 60-70 cruising. Anybody know if you can remove the oil pan without pulling the motor. I was thinking what if i just put a dry filter on there it should obviuosly fill with oil. Maybe i can try that anyhow i think that would show if oil was directed correctly. Anyhow sunday i am going to figure this mess out hopefully.
