My 361 is giving me fits lately. Here is what my '66 Coronet is doing/not doing...
1) From a warm OR cold start, it is a bitch to get running and stay running. I either have to prime the carb with fuel or ether to start it, but it won't stay running unless I do this three or more times. It will die when put in Drive. When it gets running and stays running, it feels like I need to have more throttle pressure than normal to keep it going. It ran great coming back from the transmission shop a few days back, but not since then.
2) I recently replaced the engine fuel line with a new repop line set (steel, not stainless) and new filter. The fuel pump is a mechanical unit I replaced a few years ago. I also put a new accelerator pump on the Carter three weeks back. For whatever reason, the car runs like it's not getting all the fuel it should.
3) The car has had a Mopar electronic ignition since 1980. The cap and rotor were replaced recently, as I cannibalized them for my truck. Wires are several years old, as are the plugs. The plugs look good, with very little wear evident. The coil is stock. The voltage regulator is new, and on my voltmeter, I get 14.2VDC above idle, and 12.8VDC at idle (750 RPM). The battery is fully charged. I replaced the battery end to the negative side of the battery cable last week, as it was not seating on the battery terminal fully. All of my engine grounds are good.
4) I have about five gallons of 91 octane corn-squeezins' in the tank I got as I was coming home from the transmission shop. I use 100% gas all the time...except this time...but I've had the problem before.
So, knowing these things, what say you as to to why the car is so damn hard to start and keep running? Why does it feel like I'm trying to pull a trailer with the Coronet?
