i replaced distributor and i used the finger over number one hole to find top dead center, and rotor is pointing at #1 plug wire.but i see the 4 speed trans 383 cars have a different degree chart oppose to the automatic factory specs,my chart shows a 4 speed ignition timing should be at tdc, and automatics should be at 5 degrees, does that mean that the groove on balancer should be pointing at 0 degrees for a 4 speed or am i off with balancer for ignition timing?where should groove be pointing for correct timing? how can car crank at 0 degree on balancer? thanks

0* on any harmonic balancer will (should!) be TDC. Your ignition timing is done with distributor adjustment and your timing light. On a factory 383 you could start with 5* advance (my 383 hated it) and go from there.

I wish all those worthless factory timing charts would spontaneously combust....
