383 gas Mileage

big block mopars and fuel mileage shouldn't be used in the same thread it is what it is
X2. horsepower and speed sucks gas. you can't have it both ways.Back in 68-70 a guy could drive a muscle car
every day,get 10-12 in town, But most people averaged 7,500-8,000 miles a year. I averaged 10-12 miles a day in the 70's. Today,
if I kept it short I go 50 a day. Sometimes the good ole days WERE the good ole days!

my 440 HP with TF 727 and 3.23 rear makes 100 km with 17 liters of gas.... speed@ 65 mph / 100km /h on the autobahn /highway I think that´s pretty good !

in us mpg it is around 14mpg btw

Greetings Juergen

Used a 750 Holley double pumper carb on a 70 AMX with 3.55 gears and at highway cruising was pulling high 15 mpg. Was expecting single digits. The double pumpers do not come into play at cruising speeds. AMX has 2.80 gears at this time with 3.27 first gear Richmond trans. 66 Barracuda has 904 and 8.8 3.27 gears for a decent highway type driving 340 engine. When I installed a dual four barrel 383 intake using 2 400 cfm Carters with electric choke the gas mileage went up 2 mpg over the best 4 barrel setup. My best guess on that was more smaller bores with faster air speed. Also the cold weather starting was great with that setup.
Gas mileage can be had, it just will take some work and trail and error

I get 17mpg with a 383, headers and an edelbrock 650 avs. The 650 is perfect for the stock 383..i definitely give up some horsepower up top but in exchange I get great throttle response and livable fuel mileage. But...it'd be nice to have more power. My upcoming engine build will not be as cheap on fuel, that's for sure.
