I'll start by saying I search this for a good hour and found nothing. I have a 71 383, but when I got the car the distributor was out. I got the car to #1 tdc compression, but what cylinder dose the rotor need to point to #1 on the left or #2 on the right. I know on gm it #1, but some told me that on big block mopars you point it to #2 and start with plug wire 1 here and go counter clockwise. Any help would be nice, I want to get it up and running. Thank you.

At TDC the rotor had better be pointing to whatever wire that goes to #1 or it won't run.....but that being said, the book shows that #1 wire is placed near #2 cylinder or about 8 o'clock. Rotor turns counterclockwise.

#1 cylinder on big block mopars is on the driver's side so you need to make sure the rotor is pointing to that plug wire in the distributor. Do you have a distributor wiring diagram? If not just say the word and we can get one posted.
