I am collecting parts to convert my 74 big block Charger to a 4-speed. I found a complete 4 speed od transmission with low miles, but the id stamp is instead of A 833 is stamped R or maybe P 833 4 22 85. Anyone know what this tranny is? the other numbers are 03B2335 and C-13546 B. Thank you for you help

Looks like it was made 4-22-85. Most likely out of a 2wd truck.

Quick way to i.d. an overdrive 4-speed: 3/4 shift lever on trans is upside-down. Pointing UP, rather than Down.

Will he have an issue finding a bellhousing??? Or will it be aftermarket most likely??
I’m not sure about that. I don’t think the overdrives make a good performance transmission because the ratios are so wide.

I have an A833 4 speed a-body and b-body, both 3/4 shifter arms point up.
OD 3/4 shifter arm points down.
Not all OD trans are aluminum, earlier ones are cast iron, not sure about trucks.
Don't bother getting a different bellhousing, have the OD bearing retainer turned down to fit your bellhousing.
Brewers also has the bearing retainer, they just turn down the OD one.
Too much hate for the OD trans, unless it's a track car it is a great trans for a daily or a street car.

In my case, 4.085 is a direct swap into my bb bell:

Thanks for the info. my car is a cruiser so I think the overdrive will work well with my 3.91 gear. Anyone know why it is stamped R833?
